We're 4 months into this. 136k deaths. 3 million cases. Everyone can see the giant spike in numbers since reopening. It's hard to feel bad for anyone at this stage who goes out of their way to talk about COVID like it isn't real and refuse to take any precautions or indeed intentionally put themselves in harm's way to own the libs and catches COVID and dies.

I'm saving my sympathies for the people who take precautions and take it seriously but catch it from assholes who don't take it seriously.

Ordered a pizza for pick up yesterday.

Went inside and there was a a whole ass family of like 10 eating inside, multiple people eating in there, just sitting and talking as if we don't live in a Covid hot spot. None of them wearing masks of course.

That's why I'm "optimistic" about not hitting New York-in-April levels, but it's still going to be real bad.

My heart goes out to anyone working in these emergency rooms. I can't imagine being in one of the few hospitals servicing an impacted area and seeing tens of thousands of (excess) deaths over only three or four months.

i said this earlier in the thread but I have a friend who’s uncle had it. He’s overweight, in his sixties and has diabetes. He survived and that’s because they were more aggressive in treating him early than they would have at the beginning. They threw him on a ventilator at the first sign of trouble.

Yep, my main concern is about the death rate is that deaths are not going to be just concentrated in NY and NJ, but most of the south and west, so by the time they individually realize they need to shut down we will be seeing 10 states all with smaller deaths than NY individually but combined they could be very large.

The death rate is one thing but there's also lasting effects on the health of many people who had severe Covid-19.
Their lungs are ruined, some have lost their sense of smell and taste and most get tired very quickly.

And to go with the above argument, even if deaths stay at 700 deaths a day, that is still 121800 more dead this year, for about a quarter-million deaths this year.
