My pet theory on why BA2 is having a hard time taking off in the USA is because BA2 was included in the BA1 wave in the USA and since no one gave a fuck and BA1+2 spread everywhere in the USA there's not much left for it to do here.

My understanding is that, at least early on, most labs couldn't detect the difference between BA1/BA2 if they weren't looking for it. I think a lot of the USA testing in Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb didn't catch BA2 spread.

Also no one wears masks anymore anywhere near me. 100% Yolo. I'm still masking up inside, but starting to relax on outdoors a bit. Went on a date yesterday outdoors with a gal and we sat a bench for part of it and talked face to face without masks. Hope I didn't get covid :'(

We've pretty much dropped all of our mask mandates outside of public transport and planes and in hospitals and nursing homes etc.

High vaccination rates are the most effective tool the world has and this is what should be getting pushed as much as possible.

Ontario is going down again and we peaked without cases overhelming the hospitals again. Fingers crossed that fall will be OK and no new variants come out that are bad. Also going to Dublin next month and I'm nervious about being around so many people when I havent for years now.

Took a trip down to fabulous Atlantic City

Bus there: 30/30 masked
Local bus: 20/25 masked
Casino/hotel: Maybe 5% masked. Folks with masks primarily Asian, no real age correlation. The oddest I saw were when a couple was walking around and one had a mask and one didnt. What do they think happens when they retire to their bed?
Jitney: 8/13 masked
Bus back: 20/30 masked
NYC subway: About 80% masked

One thing I noticed is that a lot of people have upgraded from basic masks to the N95s, especially the older folks on the subway with masks.
