I see this as Trump's big chance of getting re-elected.
I see it as Biden’s only chance of winning
I can see it both ways, to be honest. The whites taking the protests and turning it into riots despite the protesters saying "stop" are going to fuel the "THUG!" image that Trump and certain rural whites (and cops) have.
The rest of us (the folks that know of police brutality) would want Trump (who has badly managed nearly every fucking thing) out and vote against that base.
The question is: Who has the bigger base?
Cities under lock down, ballot boxes patrolled by the national guard and/or still a virus in the air.
If you just had a scuffle with the police or are anxious about the authorities you aren't going to vote in such conditions but if you want 'law and order' restored you will.
Not to mention the bill of the burned cars, looted small businesses etc. will end up on the doorstep of the ordinary citizens.
Most of this stuff is happening in communities, cities and states Trump didn't win in 2016.
One of the things Obama did well is that he channeled all the discontent for the war into a powerful and structured political platform and those protests became inspiring rallies instead.
I don't think Joe Biden or the Democratic party are up to the task to unite the different groups protesting under the same banner at this point.
Next to the George Floyd protests against police violence the sort of secondary 'fuck the system' protests and looting remind me of Occupy, Yellow Vests or the London riots. Leaderless and directionless.
While the first type of protest will find support as we have seen with the spread of protests across multiple cities and states. The latter doesn't.
The people that take their kids out to march for a good cause and those that break curfew to set police cars on fire are very different.
So either those watching TV that want to protect themselves from these riots vote for Trump and the GOP for 'law and order'
or they don't think they're up to the task of keeping them safe and vote for Biden or don't vote at all. There's also the question of who to blame
and with the Democrats already blaming the 'Russians' or 'foreign influence' they're losing that part of the debate as well.
