That said, I'll say this based on my experience and take my leave:I don't think the moderation team is wired to do what it takes to fix this.That is not a diss, it's an observation. Racism is a cancer and you have to treat it like one. Aggressively. Unsparing. Unyielding.The lawnmower jokes, memes, etc. were all jokes back in the day, but the jokes were based on one immutable fact - if I caught you saying some slick shit, dogwhistle or foghorn, your account was at risk and fuck you if you didn't like it. It opened me up to a lot of racist vitriol, but 1) I was already public in the industry so doxxing was a waste of time, 2) my employers were aware of my work on the forum and didn't care which insulated me greatly and 3) the crying of keyboard warriors meant nothing to me. Frankly, it was the amount of time spent sweeping out the trash that exhausted me the most.Again, my approach isn't for everybody. I don't even know if it's the right one for this forum. But it was highly effective.I would recommend this, though - a moderator warning at the top of potentially contentious threads stating that it's being watched? Always a good idea. The ones who will complain loudest about discourse being affected negatively by such a warning never had any intention of interacting in good faith anyways - you can take that to the bank. Shy is welcome to send in another appeal, but please understand that he's already been given a ton of leniency and understanding. He wasn't banned on a whim. There were many infractions, and also several 'last chance' warnings. But we're willing to look at all appeals, especially if members show they have a willingness to grow and improve.
