It's less "west dragging Japan in a more progressive direction" and more "big Japanese publishers want their biggest games to have worldwide mass appeal + current trends outside Japan lean towards a more inclusive, sensitive way of depicting different demographics while Japan is behind when it comes to stuff like gender equality & minority representation -> some publishers have started taking pointers from outside Japan on how to handle these things".

yeah no I've been here since the beginning and this OT has had a racism problem since day 1. Justifications like this trying to pretty it up pretending it's all constructive doesn't help. There's rarely been a discussion in these topics that actually necessitated even mentioning a game/dev is Japanese in order to highlight issues with character designs and/or gameplay. If you're not Japanese it's not your place to talk about what needs fixing with the culture, end of. The Asian meeting report happened less than 1 year ago, and nothing changed in response. Someone asked a broad neutral question recently "are things in games getting better or worse?" and was met immediately with west good Japan bad.

It was a fucking Touho porn doujinshi: 

  i don’t know about anything on their social media if something happened but if this is referencing dialogue in a touhou doujin they did, it might have been slightly out of context based on the translation? it’s a little more likely they’re all references to things people argue are true or false, and supposedly (as I’m mostly going off on good faith that it exists as I can’t personally verify) there’s another doujin they did that is very upfront about the existence of comfort women and how horrible it was.

regardless of intent though deploying really emotionally harrowing stuff like that for your doujin is kind of beyond the pale, and a good sign of a person i’m pretty much ok getting pushed out. just maybe not the absolute lowest sort of person like that page would imply.

That's the tricky thing right, about a sexual character like Bayonetta which should be fine but then the sexualisation is unfortunately also attached which can at times undermine that. If James Bond, Kratos, Leisure Suit Larry, Geralt, and other male sexual characters can exist without sexualisation or objectification, why not female sexual characters? Surprisingly there are very few female sexual protagonists outside of RPGs like Bioware games, Assassin's Creed, or Cyberpunk 2077. There is just Cate Archer who can be sexual but isn't objectified, which is why I'm still wishing Monolith or some developer buys the rights back and makes a new NOLF game.

-Writes off her words and actions as "a difference of opinion"

-Writes off gamergate harassment as a handful of bad apples that gamergate can't be held responsible for
-Pretends like conservatives are being attacked simply for being conservative and not for their bigoted views
