So there was a plane and a helicopter involved?

Nine bodies found. per msnbc

e: they just fixed the graphic, 9 people on the aircraft.

Vultures should stop sticking mics and cameras in front of these people.

It's kinda enraging.

Twitter going INSANE:

(Image removed from quote.)

This is the first time I've seen one subject solidly hit all the trending slots. I don't follow Basketball or sports in general being a ghey :supergay but is this really that crazy/impactful?
LeBron just passed him in scoring in a week full of reflections and reminiscences on his career. So he was extra on people's minds beyond being one of the most popular (in both as a hero and villain) players ever to play. He was a tremendous inspiration to an entire generation of players who didn't become frontcourt players, and even many who were.

This is also probably the youngest an NBA superstar has ever died since Pete Maravich.

I suppose Drazen Petrovic would be the other one who passed just as he was about to enter his NBA prime (Pete was already out of the game), though he already showed the world what he could do on an international level.

I hadn't thought of Drazen, I had thought of Reggie Lewis (and Len Bias) but none of them really had anything like Kobe's career, really not even if Kobe had died at their ages. (Except Bias.) Drazen was yooge in Europe but was just finally getting off the bench in the NBA sadly.

Had Kobe's last injuries not been so bad he might have still been playing recently. Stockalone both played to 41. Kareem of course. Maravich was done in by knee injuries, retired early.

I still feel like I'm forgetting someone.

For what it's worth, there is no basketball game at the Staples Center this Wednesday so I guess you won't be bumping into 24s and 8s much at all.

Incorrect. There were people all over that were there just to mingle and think about Kobe. Even at 10:45 when the hockey game and concert were over there were still hundreds of people just hanging out. Some dudes even had two mini basketball hoops and a ball and were playing basketball.

Like, I’ve seen this stuff on the news and in film, but experiencing it in person is just next level surreal.

The grossest thing was all the cheap cash in memorabilia.

I'm going to use this minor perceived slight to fuel me as I work to become the greatest inefficient volume shit poster of all time. I probably also need to invent a terrible nick name my brand to go along with it, as I channel my VILLAIN to become the HERO. Also I need demi to find me a Shaq or a Pau.

It seems only fitting.

Kurt Cobian.. Seattle.. was like what you describe x's 100 all over the touristy parts for a long time.

Also their house, I lived down the street nearly a decade later and it was still a problem.. cops had to start clearing people out lol

Ah yeah, I grew up in Tacoma so I never really experienced that first hand, but thinking back on that time period and I just remembered how kids at my HS mourned and had moments of silence for Tupac.

Last night I saw a reporter post a picture of the crowd at LA Live saying something like, there's still so many people and it has been 4 days, and now thinking about what you've said about the Cobain thing... I wonder how long the city lets it go before they start regulating it? I guess people have been pretty peaceful so it isn't a big deal.

I did a little Seattle visit to visit some Cobain sites like 5 years ago. I swung by the house where he killed himself. there was a couple in the park next to the house playing Nirvana tracks from a tablet or some small radio. I just looked at the "tribute bench" that's there. There was a cigarette left there. Some candy I think too. It was nice. The bench is covered in all kinds of messages. I don't know what it's like there on April 5th, but I also went there my last day before I left, as I kinda had a weird feeling the first time and was caught off guard that there was someone else there. The second time some local was running by for an early jog and we had a small chat for a minute. It was a neat memory.

I am generally pretty empathetic, but I have to admit that I am struggling very much to be so in this case and I am not proud of that.

I will bow out of this thread though out of respect for those who feel differently.

Not a basketball fan so I was fascinated reading about Kobe and Shaq feud. It’s a bizarre combination of ego driven celebrity pettiness but still feeling like a real encompassing sport drama. Shaq is right in describing his relationship with Kobe as two brothers constantly fighting.

Yeah, I did read that. That sounds like brothers drama to me.  :yeshrug

Very shitty and petty brothers, but is obvious they were close in one way or another, while also hating each other guts for most of their careers. That’s is the fascinating thing about all this. From someone is not exactly a fan  of sports in general, this shit is to real even when it doesn’t try to be.

I never got that. Kobe raped a woman and presumably was unfaithful as well. Aren’t all athletes messing with groupies?

There are a few boy scouts like AC Green but it’s very rare.
