I’d say it’s too soon to tell on the bat, he was too good a hitter for too long to have lost it all. Agree with the rest, especially about getting dom into the lineup.

I mean, I replied to this earlier but here goes again:

Elite level athletes spend the majority of their life from adolescence (if not early childhood) onward honing basically one set of skills in order to maximize their earning potential. Along with that, in order to succeed at a high level, they have to have unnaturally high confidence. So 1) they're invincible in their own minds, otherwise why would they have been able to earn all this money and fame, which our society values over almost anything else and 2) ignorant.

Some dudes that aren't ELITE elite athletes can make it and carry with them social and scholastic experiences outside of this paradigm and be mostly normal people; some are raised by parents that won't let the system fully warp their kids; and some for whatever reason can make it through as a semi-normal human being. Most of them are liable to believe their idiot uncles or business managers when they overhear dumb shit like flat earther-ism or anti-vax nonsense or dumb AF hotep level shit or anti Semitic horseshit.

The theory fits the reality of the situation. We really oughta quit deifying athletes, but I doubt it ever happens.

I agreed with you before but given the NBA and NHL's use of the bubble it's clear not all elite athletes are equal. The NHL and NBA players are all concerned for their safety while the MLB players seem straight up mongoloids.

I'm going to assume that most baseball players swing more conservative than most other athletes as it's a conservative game steeped in tradition. NHL is mostly Canadian so of course they take it seriously. NBA is full of black people who mostly swing liberal and they're definitely taking it seriously. Whereas MLB is mostly white and Latino and doesn't give a fuck. It's also interesting to note how different teams respond differently to the pandemic. Liberal city clubs like the Yankees, Cubs, and Dodgers take masks and social distancing VERY seriously just watching their games. Whereas teams in more conservative areas (Marlins, Cards) don't. It's interesting how politics and demographics come into play here.

I can think MLB's "suggestions" are bullshit while also feeling players that do this are idiots and irresponsible. At the end of the day, it was their decision to go to a strip club and while it's true that MLB's lax security helped contribute they still did it with their own decision-making. This idea that players should be absolved from responsibility because Manfred and MLB are also dipshits is complete bullshit. The Cards players going to the casino after those Marlins players caught the Rona are even more complicit.

More evidence Manfred should be fired and is a limp wristed leader who is incapable of making actual decisions. Astros skirting punishment which enabled revenge from ball players is yet another example of his inability to lead. Then, like now, no one is being punished. A real Commish would threaten anyone that breaks his rules of confinement with lifetime bans from baseball. After all, you're putting your team, coaches, and staff at risk and could contribute to killing someone.

Really like what I’m seeing from Andres Giminez, reminds me of Jose Reyes when he first came up. He helped the Mets manufacture two runs, first with a stolen base and later by getting on with a drag bunt, going first to third, and then coming home on a really shallow fly out. The Mets have really lacked speed since Reyes signed with Miami and it’ll be nice to see if Giminez can put together that kind of offense the Mets have sorely missed.
