When i went to belgium, what i enjoyed most was all the good african food. Top top quality. The chocolate and frites (obviously i went veg) were good too, but maybe i felt that i could get a lot of that stuff at home

I am guessing you went to Brussels or Bruges. The best stuff can be found in the francophone part of the country. It’s a great fusion of unpretentious northern French cuisine and the usual deep fried stuff you‘ll find in the Netherlands/Dutch speaking parts. Liege for example is a city that is ugly as sin, but the food is just great.

which also aren't special but just other brands available to purchase in every supermarket over the counter by the truckload if you want.

Love a good gose too;  basically not a big fan of prominent hop flavors.   

But don't get me wrong;  I enjoy a good IPA or Lager/Pilsner/Whatever.    Also enjoy rando styles like Rauchbiers, Belgian dubels/tripels.. really whatever.. I enjoy all beer.

Lagers just near the bottom of that list.

I'd say rauchbier is my least favorite style, it's like licking an ashtray 
I think a straight-up pale ale is my favorite overall, but I'll drink most anything but aforementioned rauchbiers.
