Late 90's Early 2000's pop punk is music that I didn't really like much at the time, but whenever I hear it I get a lot of nostalgia tings since that was such a fond era for me and it takes me back.
That early to mid 2000's emo was hugely popular around here (Brand New and Taking Back Sunday are both from the island) but I never got into it. My girlfriend was a huge fan of that kinda stuff and like... I just can't recognize any songs or any bands, none of them were really memorable for me. I couldn't even recognize a Nickelback or a Foo Fighters song either tbh.
2000's was the decade when, thanks to fast internet connections, sirius XM, joining forums and discussion groups for my favorite styles of music, the death of MTV, friends' whose music tastes stagnated and stayed in the 90's, I got pretty isolated from anything non-electronic.
Early 2000s I was mainly listening to and spinning prog:
Mid 2000s I was listening to and spinning electro:
I tried to get into minimal techno since around 2007-2008 you couldn't escape that stuff. I binged on it to try and find stuff I liked and ended up with very few tracks. Such as these (even though Solomun is a punchline nowadays):

Then the end of the decade was when minimal finally died out and deep/tech house got big, I fell hard for this and still love it.
Not to mention, at the end of the decade, electronic music was finally starting to get popular in the states. People wouldn't look at me all confused when I told them what I liked anymore... though the first half of the 2010's is when the stuff really peaked in the states - Deadmau5, Avicii, Skrillex, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Martin Garrix, etc.
