there's plenty of videos out of cops smashing windows or going through parking lots and slashing everyone's tires, multiple incidents of them attacking visibly pregnant black women including hitting a woman in the stomach and opening fire(with rubber bullets) on a car after a man clearly says his wife is in there pregnant, countless videos of people being knocked over as they were doing nothing, and now this man was murdered. the cops aren't doing shit right now except trying to hurt people.

While German riot police is scum and has been getting away with instigating shit for ever, mainly during football matches and demonstrations, I consider myself lucky and privileged that the use of potentially lethal force is incredibly restricted and is only used as an ultima ratio. I can't imagine the tension if a cop had his hand on his gun the entire time during a routine traffic stop.

One thing I also noticed is that American cops will try to handcuff you no matter how cooperative you are being, this shit is insane and unnecessarily heightens the tension of a situation.

San Jose instituted a curfew for the next week like a lot of California cities. I live near a hospital that is the only level 1 trauma center in the area so I'm used to hearing sirens at night but it was constant last night as well as the sound of a helicopter overhead.

Obviously, the issues with police culture towards minorities has been around forever but I think the paralysis/apathy of the government in dealing with the pandemic and economic situation is what's making everything boil over. I'll say that not all police departments or state/local governments are equally bad but the point is that once public trust is extinguished, you can't move past it. That's the good news.

Also, does anyone feel like this is sort of like the Occupy protests ten years ago but better organized and taken more seriously? The only reason I can imagine is that because of Trump, there's a clearer enemy.
