Looks as good as Sonic 06 and Sonic Forces did at their reveals tbh. Sega's always been good at CG and marketing.

Looking at that basically shows why 3D Sonic or at the very least the "gotta go fast" thing doesn't work. It's basically one of those obstacle avoidance games as introducing other gameplay only serves to slow down the game. Combat or platforming doesn't work at those speeds.

If you look at the first Sonic game they actually had a lot of parts where they slow you down to do some regular platforming.

Sonic 1 is fun but pretty janky. Lost count of how many times I died going between two moving platforms.

And dying underwater from lack of air is just not fun. Underwater movement is just not fun. Spindash helps in those situations.

I always felt like Sonic 1 -> 2 was the biggest step up in the series.

- Sonic team of the era, even if given more time, likely wouldn't have squashed all the bugs or fleshed Soleanna out enough to be interesting
- The story is irredeemable and wouldn't have changed for the better if given more time
- A lot of the character designs like Sonic and Eggman would have still been bad, even if given more time
