Scott's filmography is just insane.
At the age of 84 he directed House of Gucci and The Last Duel.

If he has an opinion about movies you damn well SIT DOWN AND LISTEN

Yep.  He deserves the minority status granted to one lone weirdo claiming the word "Asian," is racist

TBH in terms of evoking emotion via cinema, This was an insane moment.
I think Alien was incredible, Aliens was badass as hell, but I've never felt my heart beating out of my chest like at the end of both Infinity War and Endgame.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/psa-yandex-reverse-image-search-work-so-much-better-than-googles.514269/

Quote
I had a feeling I was getting catfished so I took this photo to google reverse image search to try and see if I could confirm my suspicions. I found nothing, so I continued to talk to this girl. Despite that, something in the back of my mind tells me this can't be real. I went to look for other reverse image search sites like Tinyeye and Yandex (both were recommended by a reverse image search site) and lo and behold, Yandex got me the results. It's wasn't the same photo, but it was the same person since their nails matched.

I immediately tried out a couple of other obvious catfish photos that gave me no results on Google, and Yandex was able to get me the results. One of them wasn't a catfish, but the photo was flipped, but Yandex got it. Though to be fair, this person was able to confirm her identity, but I just did a test to compare the results.

If you don't believe me, try it. Go to this site and upload or paste the URL, then press search similar images, then select Yandex. https://smallseotools.com/reverse-image-search/ Hopefully this is useful for all the people here. I know it's not foolproof since there are other ways to hide your pics, but so far Yandex has been working well.

Actually, I wonder if I can find a couple of catfish pics and post them here for everyone to test and compare.

If they were "great" by the standards people like Scott are talking about, they'd not be as accessible and fun... these people are talking out of their arseholes.

Anecdote: Ridley Scott viewed my ex's post-production house to see if he'd use them for one of his films, and he put in a complaint that there was bird shit on the outside of the toilet window lol. The man is ridiculous.

Fact is that superhero films are not written the same as award winning, best writing of all time, literary masterpiece level scripts and they would be worse off if they were. This idea that they are bad, or lesser because they do what they do is just posturing nonsense. Yeh, sure, there are some really bad superhero scripts, but there are many that are written really well in the style they are going for and it's pretty silly to just call them all "bad" or even just "lesser" without further elaboration.

"Their scripts are not any fucking good" remains egotistical nonsense that ignores their context.

Superhero movies didn't invent blockbuster entertainment, anything from JAWS to Indiana Jones, to Die Hard, to Alien itself *is* mass audience-aimed entertainment, not some esoteric piece of fine art.
You don't need to be bland to appeal to the mass and entertain.

And MCU movies aren't bad, in the sense that The Room is bad, or Birdemic is bad, they're finely crafted pieces of inoffensive entertainment, completely stripped of any personality.
They're not bad, they're bland and soulless.

Notice how many detractors of these movies didn't really have much of a problem with capeshit when they were represented by Burton's Batman (or Nolan's) Raimi's Spiderman, and so on.

It's not about being snobby towards superheroes, it's about being repulsed by completely insincere, toothless entertainment, saturating the market.

No movie is done in a vacuum.  :yeshrug
There's the argument that Jodorowsky's Dune dying even allowed for Alien to be in the first place, so you can point the birth of something like that to many different elements, i agree with you it wasn't Scott waking up in the morning and creating the thing out of thin air.

But you look at Scott's career and it's clear that Alien wasn't some kind of lucky fluke, even his flawed movies that people hate on so much (Prometheus and A:Covenant) are excellent in the visual and production department, with a very strong identity (or "soul" as the kids call it).
I wouldn't disagree that his movies usually don't rely on the strength of the script as much as his mise en scene, which could be seen as a compliment for him (or, his ability to elevate an ok script).
Though you even have example like Matchstick Men, which are just all around great.
In the case of prometheus, also because of jodorowskis dune  :P

Superhero movies didn't invent blockbuster entertainment, anything from JAWS

Ridley Scotts a solid film maker, so Jaws would have been my counterpoint to any "Alien would have been shit if it hadn't had a Giger designed monster", because Jaws famously had a shit monster but Spielberg is also a solid film maker and knew what to do with it.

You barely fucking see the Alien in Alien. And that's kind of the point.

for as much as era likes to pull faces about how doomy articles like that is, the conclusion seems completely opposed to era's normal ideals:

Quote
Focused on America’s own bitter problems, they no longer believe America has anything to offer the rest of the world: Although the Hong Kong prodemocracy protesters waving American flags believe many of the same things we believe, their requests for American support in 2019 did not elicit a significant wave of youthful activism in the United States, not even something comparable to the anti-apartheid movement of the 1980s.

Incorrectly identifying the promotion of democracy around the world with “forever wars,” they fail to understand the brutality of the zero-sum competition now unfolding in front of us. Nature abhors a vacuum, and so does geopolitics. If America removes the promotion of democracy from its foreign policy, if America ceases to interest itself in the fate of other democracies and democratic movements, then autocracies will quickly take our place as sources of influence, funding, and ideas. If Americans, together with our allies, fail to fight the habits and practices of autocracy abroad, we will encounter them at home; indeed, they are already here. If Americans don’t help to hold murderous regimes to account, those regimes will retain their sense of impunity. They will continue to steal, blackmail, torture, and intimidate, inside their countries—and inside ours.

in other words, the US needs to get back to military intervention  :american :usacry

Ah, yes. Yet another Mel Gibson thread where people will openly post about how GREAT of a director he is, and how they just CANNOT WAIT to see his next project.

So, I ask: Are you...
1) Too young to remember anything
2) You DO remember, but you are a terrible person yourself and simply do not give a fuck how awful he is
or 3) All you can remember is that he said, "Sugar tits" that one time and you low-key thought that was kinda funny

Nothing to say about how he told his partner that she looked "like a fucking bitch in heat, and if you get raped by a pack of ni**ers, it will be your fault"?

Here's like 35 minutes of it (NSFW, fucking duh). The, uh, "pack of ni**ers" is about one minute in.

He knocked her teeth out. Y'all remember that, right? And you're still here for your king, huh? Oh. Okay.

Anyone posting remotely positive comments about Mel Gibson should be immediately banned.

Wonder if she'd have closed it for being a "shock value thread" if it was about beating white babies?

This cat just got banned for saying a photo with that Rittenhouse kid was well composed:

I'm sorry, I was wrong. Actually, that photographer should be ashamed, and they are essentially a white supremacist themselves for taking a quality photograh.

User Banned (Duration Pending/Permanent Threadban): Concern trolling with regards to a white supremacist over multiple posts, previous severe ban for concern trolling towards the BLM protests

That dude was an apologist for both Rittenhouse and the judge. Low key gloating through the whole thread. Problem with Ree though is he has to tip-toe around his true intentions and can't just be on the side of the defense.

I'm annoyed by his stance, but would rather debate the other side (the whole point of a forum) than just see him banned.

I think the worst part of the Mel Gibson thing was the hypocrisy.

He has a chance to redeem himself completely with the release of Passion of the Christ 2:Resurrection!

Easiest way for Mel to redeem himself is to direct a Marvel joint. They'd gladly let him skullfuck them and their waifu for a 90% fresh RT.
