A random internet poster tries to discredit me over a 7 year old Twitter post, which wasn't relevant when I started my job, but has now become relevant because I said I like Harry Potter. A new employee, that has yet to start the job, then threatens to break their contract, because they don't like my face - despite not knowing me or the workplace I've spent the last months/years with. I get fired.

I know you murricans aren't exactly a beacon of worker's rights and unions, but it's still absolutely insane to me that this is a thing that can legitimately play out  Over here, anyone with half a brain could screw this company over with the aid of free social partnership institutions. Especially since we aren't exactly talking about Amazon here, but a small nerd business.

I was trying to write an opinion piece to go along with this strip, but honestly, after a full two days of researching this Hogwarts Legacy controversy/boycott from all of the different angles I could find, reading articles and reddit subs and comment sections… I am simply worn out. I thought my argument would end up being a case of ‘separate the artist from the art,’ but I wasn’t aware the extent of the damage JK Rowling’s comments cause.

And more importantly, I think, I’ve ultimately come to the conclusion that I can’t offer anything of value to this particular discourse one way or another. Like it or not, Hogwarts Legacy, and the act of buying it (or not buying it), is going to be viewed by someone as a stand for something. You will be judged based on your decision to buy it or not buy it.

Not a conclusion I expected to reach about a video game featuring a dorky wizard school, but here we are.
