Yeah, me too. She loves my type of movies, too. The Departed and Children of Men were her favorites last year, and Sin City the year before that! :punch

She sounds hot :-*

I went to see Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon with my mom... :(

It's a terrible idea to go to movies with her because she always has something ignorant to say. Like during one of the heated sex scenes she was like "no wonder Asia has an AIDS problem" :lol

To make matters worse, my mom gave Van Helsing a 9/10

But she's a complete sucker for any movie with monsters. When I was little she'd always get us the old monster movies. She has very good taste when it comes to old movies, and she's the main reason I've been exposed to so many old classics like Imitation of Life and The Bad Seed.

Plus if she really likes a movie she'll rent it 100 times instead of buying it wtf. She used to rent Fried Green Tomatoes at least once a month until she finally bought it. Now she's renting The Devil Wears Prada over and over again :lol

Eh, I'm not.  I'm not expecting high art.  I hear it's mediocre, but not awful.  Since I'm not paying, I don't mind seeing a superhero numb-a-fest where Nic Cage walks around on fire battling CG for an hour.  Worst ways to spend two hours.

Uh, you heard wrong.  The complaints have been that there's far too much action and it's mindless.  AICN pretty much hates it and Harry Knowles referred to it as a videogame in nature, where Ghost Rider has to defeat sub-bosses and a final boss.  Nobody has called it a trainwreck, but I have heard F4 comparisons, which was just mediocre.

I love how both F4 and GR have the best fap material out of all the superhero films, but are so goddamned bad. :(

Just came back.

It's C+ entertainment.  Worth a flyer or catch it on HBO if you're bored.  I enjoyed a lot more than I did than the very mediocre and sometimes boring Fantastic Four.  It's rather short for a superhero origin film, as it clocks in shy of two hours, so its not long enough to get bloated and preachy.

Nic Cage is pretty good in the role.  He's likeable and gets the dry, quirky character angle going, so I dug him.  When he's on screen, its arguably the best part of the movie.

Eva Mendes is so fucking hot in this movie.  She's showing a ridiculous amount of cleavage and her curves are in all the right places - I'd marry this woman.

I was kind of surprised at the humor in this movie.  It works.  The only hokey scenes belong to the movie's main villain, who is this emo Devil wannabe whose motivation is, "Daddy Satan doesn't love me enough, so I'm going to take over the world!  Mwuhahahaha!"  He's the lamest part of the movie.

Ghost Rider has to fight him and his three elemental goons in order, like a videogame.  I thought most of the action sequences involving Ghost Rider fighting the elementals were meh and short.  The best sequences are Ghost Rider himself destroying the city and fighting cops.  Arguably, the best part in the movie is...

spoiler (click to show/hide)
... Ghost Rider is cornered on a bridge, cops in both directions, so he jumps off the bridge into the water.  The water begins to boil, and he rises to the top.  He begins to ride on the water, engulged in flames, as he gives the authorities the middle finger and laughs as he rides off.  Fuck you, police!
[close]

I can think of far worse movies to spend your time seeing.  As of now, in the spectrum of recent releases, I'd rank it above Constantine but definitely below the top tier stuff.  If they got a better script with an actual interesting villain, I'd possibly buy a ticket for a sequel.  Nic Cage is that good in the role.  The movie should move more around him, not the head that is a skull and is on fire.

I think this pretty much answers itself and it's a real problem with the movie.  Nic Cage as Johnny Blaze is far more interesting than Ghost Rider.  The villains are incredibly lame, and even Satan doesn't really do it for me.  As so, with this kind of property that doesn't really seem to carry any weight off the comic book page, I think they should take as many liberties with the source material as they can and work any sequels around Cage.

There's an interesting story somewhere here, but this movie is not it.

Isn't Nic Cage too old to be Ghostrider?

He got in shape for the movie; probably the best shape I've seen of all the actors to take on superhero films.  His physique is fucking incredible and I don't think age is really a problem.  Cage works, the script doesn't.

This movie would also benefit heavily from an R-rating, but the showing I went to was packed with kids and I think they'd miss that demographic if they went that route.

Yeah I noticed that I was like "Why are so many kids coming to see Ghost Rider?"
