If you're having a glass of whiskey or something to cool your nerves, and you're a social drinker, that's one thing.

If you're drinking like you'd drink with friends... by YOURSELF, you have a problem, dude.

mmmm, problem :hyper

Haha!

I used to drink a lot.  Most of my female exploits involve alcohol, were at colleges or places with booze, and as so, I was used to drinking a lot.  When I was rooming with my Irish film school buddy, we'd drink a lot too.  But since he's left and I've begun dating CrystalGemini, my drinking has been a beer here or there.  The only time I really drink anymore is when I'm out with Disposable White Guy.

Pre-gaming is normal and to be expected if you're under 21.

Me? I don't have any booze at my house so I just bum drinks from my older buddies or girls I'm dancing with if we're going out clubbing. At parties I just take whatever's there. So there's usually very little pregaming for me.

Lol TBS. After hearing about your 'party' adventures, you have a lot more to worry about. lol

Nah homie, you're a lonely, diabetic drunkard. You definately have more to worry about than I do.

probably tightened up the acceptance requirements, not a bad thing actually. U of Minn used to dominate the top spot until they started to tighten their acceptence standards. I kind wish ASU would do it, too bad our president said that any kid who graduates highschool in AZ will be accepted to ASU. I guess with all our campuses acrross the Phoenix metro we have something like 70,000+ students and plan on having about 90,000 total down the road. But at least the girls are fucking hot!

Why on earth would you be proud of being in one of the biggest colleges in the country, FoC?  That doesn't mean people want to go there, that means they either have low standards or that it's a state school that everyone goes to due to financial benefits.  It generally means nothing about academic rigor.

More people = more chicks.

More chicks = more hot chicks.

More hot chicks = more chances to dig out a decent looking broad.

Small campuses are not the shit. On my campus if you're a girl that's a 7 or above you're in high demand. Plus, any chick that's a 7 or above thinks they're like the hottest thing on the planet. It's bullshit. I have friends at MSU and ASU and the chicks that they consider to be "average" would easily be considered a 9 on my campus. It sucks. Hopefully I can transfer to Columbia in Chicago next semester.

The university is annually ranked among the country’s very best public research universities and many of its colleges, schools and departments are considered among the finest in the nation. Because of its high academic quality and relatively low cost, the university is consistently cited as one of the best values in American higher education by publications such as the Fiske Guide to Colleges, the Princeton Review and the Kiplinger Business Magazine.
The Times of London, in a 2004 survey of colleges and universities around the world, ranked The University of Texas at Austin the 15th-best university in the world.

In the latest survey by the National Research Council, seven doctoral programs ranked in the top 10 in the nation, and 22 departments ranked in the top 25. Among Texas colleges and universities, The University of Texas at Austin ranked No. 1 in 30 of the 37 fields in which it was evaluated.

The person with a 2.0 average once they realize that no one will hire them. Unless they got teh connections.

Employer's dont care about GPA.
Fresh college graduates that have little work experience HAVE to have good gpa's, everything relies on your education in that case.

 :lol :lol :lol

So hilarious. Tell that to people with degrees in art related fields. It all comes down to TALENT and ASS KISSING. lol gpa.

Fucking azns.

I know a guy with computer sci degree with a 3.5 + gpa, and he was looking for a job for like 6 months. lol No one wanted to hire him!

People think gpa is so important but it depends on your degree, first and foremost. People aren't going to give a shit about your gpa if you're doing graphic design. They will if you're trying to get into med school or be a doctor.

I've never understood the appeal of research projects and "bigger professors" to undergrad students. All this says to me is more bureaucracy and more classes taught by TAs.

This is correct. I'm working on my apple polishing skills right now. The guys from Campbell-Ewald came to our school and I made sure to get noticed by showing some enthusiasm and an actual interest in alternative/non-conventional advertising. My professor, a former ad executive for GE (not a pHD), even helped me get my personal letters to each one of them sent out and delivered. I'm pretty sure getting my name out there will help me land a job in the future. More than how I did on my Macro Econ final ever will.

Exactly. The chemistry department and engineering college are both really really good. Many of the professors could have easily gone to more prestigous institutions, but UT has a lot of money to spend on research.

UT's liberal arts kind of blows and probably decreases UT's ranking.

I don't know about their ranking, but the college of communication is separate from the college of liberal arts.

I only scanned this thread, but IME GPA means little outside of progressing through the scholastic system itself.  In the working world, experience is of primary importance--however, the way GPA may transition into real-world experience may be through getting access to higher-tier internships/etc, depending on your field.

I don't care about GPA for the most part, but for certain fields I think a high one is a must. I wouldn't care of my accountant had a 2.0 GPA if he/she knew what he/she was doing and had good experience, but I'd be weary of a nurse or a doctor who had a 2.0 GPA.

That's the thing, such a low GPA would translate into the Doctor not being placed into good/competitive programs, etc (which are hard enough to get into in the first place).
