I caught the flick last night. I was kind of tired and a little bit sick, so my immediate reaction after leaving was "that was long and it sucked sitting so close to the damn screen". After digesting it last night and this morning, I think I can venture a few more opinions:
1. It's not "The first great film of 2007", or whatever the hype train was claiming. It's a well done movie that feels a little bloated and
2. Suffers from Jake Gyllenhaal's "acting". However
3. Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr. do wonderful jobs in their roles. Not enough for Chloe Sevigny to do, though.
4. I'm going to buy the Donovan track "Here Comes the Hurdy Gurdy Man" off of itunes when I get home. The damn thing is stuck in my head.
Overall it was a pretty solid movie but not quite as awesome as Fincher's other movies. Those of you who are way into serial killers and dumb shit like that will probably like it more than I do, but we've already established your poor taste. Er. Moderate apologies for the insult. I give it a solid if uninspiring 7/10.
