what the hell has happened to gaf? there is a thread about PS3 vs 360 this holiday and people are not even trying to hide accusations anymore.  Before it was a lot of subtle allusions to people being weirdo fanboys.  Even the title changes by mods are doing it.  It's like everyone got tired of finding creative ways of calling people out.

The gaming side is going to shit IMO because:

- PS3 Slim.  Sony fans started to get a little saner until the Slim and its price point was announced.  It re-awakened their inner distinguished mentally-challenged fellow, which has laid dormant for months now.  Most of them believe there are tens of millions people waiting to get a PS3 because of an aesthetics change (some people have argued this!) and a price point that is the first time remotely competitive.  I think it will do well but as usual, the typical Sony set have vastly overestimated how much people want to play Uncharted 2.

- Wii sales.  Wii sales have seen huge drop offs.  Nintendo fans are full on damage control, including justifying why it is still $250, the still anemic software lineup, and debating why third parties aren't all Wii exclusive.  Cue posts from guys like Jokeropia who are ready to correct anyone who gets software figures wrong like anyone really gives a fuck if a game sold 1.2 million instead of 1.1 million (not the real numbers, just an example)

- 360 fans on full defense.  I think Mass Effect 2 and Halo ODST look extremely boring.  With the slim out, it is time to defend their system.  I don't follow Xfags because most of the games they hype are boring sci-fi affairs.  As a result, I don't know how bad the Xfag camp is or who their top leaders are.

I dunno, the Halo 3 thread is basically the only one I read and there don't seem to be many frothing fanboys in there. A lot of them are annoyed at ODST's price point and I think they accept it as a game that's really only meant for the die hards. A lot of them seem to have KZ2 as well.

I did scope a bit of that 360 vs PS3 thread. I thought PS3 had a better fall lineup, but it's really a coin flip. Funny that this is the 4 year mark for 360, which is when all the Sony crybabies said it was going to be dead just like XBox.

You're behind the times man! They stopped "debating" that ages ago. Now its all about alleging that there is a vast anti-Wii conspiracy going on that is the cause of the Wii not getting every game in the universe and why every bad Wii review is null and void.

Also I agree that the PS3 slim is the cause of the new influx of stupidity on gaf (well that and all the new juniors they got). Hope simply breeds stupidity.

Wii sales are fine considering economic conditions.  If I'm not mistaken if you looked at sales figures from last gen the ps2 wasnt pulling astronomical numbers this time of year either.  The misconception is that the Wii was setting records for years straight and now that sales have normalised anything compared to its best years looks fucking pathetic.  I do think a price drop is required to get back up to those insane levels.  My theory is that Nintendo wanted to release Nsmb Wii, WSR, and WiiFit + to see if they could sustain the numbers without resorting to cutting the price.

Yeah, it was way ahead of its time, especially when it came to technology. I really enjoyed it for what it was, even though the game tended to come apart at the seams every now and then.
