I don't know what really happened either. All I know is that they got mad and left.

Not knowing the cause makes me paranoid. I post a crazy amount here and sometimes I find it annoying. And it's too hard to take a break from here or gaf. Video games are my main hobby and I play them a lot, but most of my friends are barely into them (Wii/Rock Band stuff). I need this stuff as an outlet so none of this craziness seeps into normal life.

Other than the MAF deal, I missed most of these dramas (completely missed the EricP thing), but I do remember there being a lot of miserable woe is me stuff, calls for bans, and whining about the board being ruined. I guess it no longer met the strict requirements of a Very Exclusive Club for the Jaded.

I can understand Patel ditching the place if his personal details were spilled, though.

MAF wasn't really forum specific, he was trying to distance himself from Internet shenanigans in general.

TVC and Patel are also more distanced - they won't come back. The post sporadically, if at all, elsewhere. They're happy to just chat on Facebook and do their stuff. They don't need forums anymore.

Eric P has a specific complaint, and I think he'll come back one day.

And Kosma, sometimes people reach a point in their social life and career when forums become irrelevant. Both are pretty busy individuals, and instead of enjoying the place for the time sink that it was, they've found other things.

Good for them.

I mean, even I have taken a hiatus or two from the forum when my personal life has hit critical mass. One of the things I regret was this coincided with some behind-the-scenes bickering that I wasn't aware of until I started posting/moderating regularly again.

I don't get it either. Anyone that "needs" forums should go see a doctor.

At the same time, I don't agree with the view that people should cut out forum activities once they find success.

Participating in a forum is not much different from most hobbies. It likely won't benefit a person much professionally or make someone a better human being.

It's just something that people do to enjoy themselves during leisure time.

If it's something that you enjoy and you have the time for it, then do it. If not , don't.

I don't see why there has to be so much deliberation over whether one should post or not but then again, I'm not an internet celebrity. $:-\$
