I don't think many people know of Miyazaki, and I doubt most know of his work. I think you're over stepping his influence a bit. Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, as good as they are, were not as influential;etc. as the likes of films such as Akira, which almost single handedly started an anime boom in the 1980's.

I found the "serious" stuff like cowboy bebop boring but found hamtaro "cute". You don't want my opinion on this.

yes, but with anime high quality is much much more rare and sparse. It's the very reason I rarely ever take an anime recommendation from anyone unless it's specific people, because anime fans typically are not the right ones to judge taste.

Agreed, for 10 years old me. I tried to watch it a few years ago and nearly cried. Glad it washed away with Beanie Babies and didn't stick around like Pokemon in terms of public attention.

WHAT IS THIS

THIS IS MADNE-- It's a Japanese movie from a popular animation director, Satoshi Kon.  He's done a bunch of great features - Millennium Actress, Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers, and a TV show I haven't seen called Paranoia Agent.

Just got back from seeing Paprika. I thoroughly enjoyed it, there are portions reminiscent of Paranoia Agent at times (ie. destruction of Tokyo and mental imagery), but it's a great film wonderfully directed by Kon. Hirasawa's score was phenomenal, and the opening credit sequence made me really happy.

Himuro should get a kick out of the film, but I won't ruin the surprise as to why.

Hey now, it was an actual hint related to the film. You'll understand once you see it.

Oh, Millenium Actress is still my favorite Kon film.

I'd probably rank them MA > Paranoia Agent = Paprika > Perfect Blue >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Tokyo Godfathers

watch millennium actress, groo -- it's one of the best animated movies i've ever seen. i imported paprika on bru ray. it's pretty awesome -- the plot's perfect mumbo-jumbo, but it's just so visually exuberant and inventive and resonant. and the uncompressed soundtrack sounds awesome on headphones. i don't think it's as good as millennium actress, but it's a lot better than perfect blue. i need to see tokyo godfathers. and whatever else this guy has done.

Also Millennium Actress OST > Paprika OST IMO

Its a pretty good series but I highly recommend watching it after at least paranoia agent/millennium actress. Paranoia Agent is a lot of set pieces, most of them discarded ideas from his previous movies. Its fun watching the series and going oh I see where that might have been.
