Volunteering abroad is fucking expensive.

So, my lady and I are looking to some kind of crazy volunteer/intern business over the summer. We're not the type to sleep in hotels and we're fine on the floor of a grass hut or something, but volunteer programs are expensive. I'm talking 800 bucks for 2 weeks, thousands of bucks for anything more than 6 weeks. Yuck.

I can't afford to volunteer. Anyone have any resources off hand with some maybe low-cost opps. abroad?

There are alot of places you can volunteer in america. I bet you could volunteer at a national park for free!! That would be bad ass.

You'd be surprised at how expensive it is anywhere. I'm not looking to make money, I'm just looking to not go bankrupt while I'm trying to help. I have a fairly robust volunteer resume here, I'm trying to acrue some abroad experience, catch a little adventure, yadda yadda.
