When I'm not masturbating or studying my mind often wanders off as I ask questions that truly challenge my mind. Why haven't we found human and dinosaur fossils together yet? Who would win in a rap battle, Young Jeezy or Dr. Seuss? But most importantly, why did so many people hate Hook? It's not a great movie, but I found it to be quite enjoyable.
I'm not a big fan of Robin Williams but he brought his A game as Peter Pan. Dustin Hoffman was great as Hook, and Bob Hoskins stole the show as Smeeeee. In fact, Julia Roberts was in the movie too, in full dyke glory

Many movies often deal with the idea of characters running from or trying to forget their past, and what movie does this better than Hook? This is where Hook really shines in my opinion. The audience is never beaten over the head with this concept either -instead of being told that the older Peter has changed, you get to make up your own mind about it. This is what seperates Hook and Unforgiven. In Hook Robin Williams doesn't tell you "I used to be a no good son of a bitch child kidnapper flyin through London...but the LSAT and bar straightened me up good..." over and over again. No, instead the movie makes you think. Would Peter Pan miss his kid's baseball game? Of course not. Clearly he's a changed man.
But can he be turned back into Peter Pan when the time comes? That is the question, and it is answered in this wonderfully fun movie. The movie becomes a personal journey as Peter slowly begins to recognize who he really is. This is best demonstrated in this dinner scene:

Just believe. What a powerful sentiment.
The movie also introduces many great characters. The most impressive of course has to be Rufio, the spunky asian who takes over in Pan's absense from Neverland.

A true badass, Rufio seems almost out of place in this children's movie - I get the feeling that he would have fit in perfectly in an 80's action movie like Predator or even Commando. He brings a level of maturity and sadness to the movie - and by sadness I'm referring to his tragic end at the hand (well, hook) of Captain Hook. I would have loved to see a Rufio spin off, like a prequel or something.
But for me, the movie is most memorable for the amazing John Willams score. The score is easily one of Williams's best, and perhaps his best since the Indiana Jones movies; it's definitely better than the more recognizable scores from ET and Superman imo. Truly brilliant work from the Mozart of our time.
