please recommend a pair of headphones
« on: May 28, 2007, 05:01:34 AM »
my trusty Sony NUDES have finally given up the ghost and I need a new pair of headphones like tomorrow. NUDES are only sold in Japan so I want something new.

I'm looking for either in-ear buds or over-the-ear cans; I share an office and like to crank it so no leakage is a must.

Looking to spend no more than $50 cause I'm cheap and want to get these tomorrow.

I have AKG-81DJ's I find them pretty good but probably not isolating enough.
Also Audio-Technica A500, A900 also have a good rep as well.

The ones packed in with iPods are amazing if you're looking for high fidelity.

Nick, I'm gonna punch you.

I could maybe deal with the shures. Anything I should know about them? Amazon has them for $76 (which wouldn't be tomorrow, but, close enough).

Fresh Prince, the A900 is $250. That's a bit insane. :)

i said he should spring for them. investing in those things was the best choice i've made for my ears in a long time. Compusa had a 30% off sale got them through an employee for another 10% off was around 68 bucks after taxes.

Synthesizer if you listen on the go get some ear buds if your usually stuck in one place get some over the ear type ones. Thats all i can really suggest. i've stayed away from closed ears ever since i lost hearing cause of them. Plus they were horrible to clean.

My turn, cunts.

I want a set of sennheiser cans for my PC.  Since they are for my PC, it would be nice if the cord was kind of long.  I want something that's hot, sexy, and will make me look like Princess Leia.

my friend who was also a NUDE-ophile recommend the shures...that's what put me over the end.

NUDEs are /incredible/ for a $30 pair of earphones. better soundscape and bass response than my cans. I have no idea why Sony hasn't brought them to the US.

the 595's are for home use the 280's are from the pro line. i'd say go with the 595's cause they are 100 bucks off at amazon.

The 280s cost half as much.  Doesn't that mean they're probably not as good?

They both have different drivers. but the 595's sound like the better deal.

The 595s, without a doubt.  There's a pretty big gulf between (most of) the 5xx series and the 2xx series.

Why Sennheiser- do you get a discount? The 595's should be open hence poor isolation. 280's are closed ie better for isolation but the sound quality isn't as great as the 595's.

If you want something increadibly nerdy (and insane):

Customise your own headphones. The headphones are supposedly great too.

I have both the 595s and the 280s and I actually wear my 595s at work despite being open and possibly (probably) annoying other people because of how fucking awesome they sound.
