People who live in the south
« on: May 31, 2007, 05:11:49 PM »
My air conditioning has been out for the past few days and its so fucking hot in here. Does anyone know if there are local laws that require land lords to treat air conditioning as an emergency? It was 90 degrees in my house last night and it was terrible! I called my landlord and they keep telling me to that their guy is on it.

Unless you're elderly or suffering from respitory problems, it's not much of an emergency, now is it?

Have you tried sleeping in a 90 degree house with no ceiling fan?

It's an emergency.

Open the door and or window, queef. I do that all that time and I have no problems, and I have the choice of turning my AC on or not.

I also live in the same city as you.

Himuro, you do not live in Austin.

FoC: Unless there was an addendum in your lease or you can prove that they haven't done anything to rectify the problem, there is no legal discourse in Texas.

My grandmother's house doesn't have AC and I lived in her house for 3 months when we had to move out while they killed mold in our house.

We still made due because my family isn't stupid and has fans.

i remember living in arizona for a month at my grandparents during the summer i'd sleep in the pool. They had ac but they didnt like to turn it on. So many a nite i would just sleep on the steps of the pool just to cool down. the pool was around 80 the house had to of been 96-98.

My house now gets very hot like yesterday evening it was 90 inside thank god the costal breeze comes in and cools the house down around 9. Once that wind turns off here in a few weeks it'll be bad like arizona hot. By then i hope the house is done and the new windows and stuff are in so i can use the ac.

It gets that way here in the summer, sometimes hotter, and I don't have central air conditioning.  Just a dinky little wall unit.  This is where electric fans come in.  They work great.  Stop bitching and go get one.

Hell my job doesn't even have ACs.  Try going to work in a suit in that kind of weather.  Not fun.

Yes.

Bottom line = man up, FoC, you fucking wuss.  If the humidity is not that bad, go to Wal Mart and get a box fan.  It will probably be a Lakewood or Lasko; they're around ten dollars.  Open the window.  Put the fan in the window.  Make sure the fan is plugged in and turn the fan on.

but black people have african genes so they're used to the heat, also all that work in the fields down south way back when gave y'all an extra resistance!  wow, you see guys, slavery wasn't all THAT bad.    :)

I was just at Wal Mart.  I saw a giant stack of box fans and immediately thought of this thread.  Actually, I thought "goddamn, what a little bitch that FoC is."  Then I saw someone near the electronics section that looked uncannily similar to him.  But, I digress.  $11.97 EVERYDAY LOW PRICE, MOTHERFUCKER.

Standards for electricity/heating providers vary from state to state, so it is probably the same for renters?

PS if you live in texas the utilities commission doesn't give two shits about you and the state of your power/gas, so I wouldn't hold out much hope for the rental rights.
