he said in aim a couple hours ago he was. I wonder if The Godfather will top Citizen Kane this time. It would be awesome just because the dvd of citizen kane has a bunch of stuff on it with "AFI's #1 FILM OF ALL TIME"

Raging Bull #4? Schidler's List #8? Hm I need to see both of those movies. Schidler's List seems kinda high, but at the same time I can imagine it being even higher in 10 years.

The Sixth Sense seemed out of place, especially when you consider the other mystery/thriller movies ahead of it. I love the movie, but I dunno.

Fellowship at #50, and Scorsese pimping it=made my day :D

Citizen Kane is great and all, but do you think it'll ever stop being rimjobbed by the film elite?  Honestly, after seeing it a few times, it's incredible, but I don't think its number one worthy.  I can see the argument made for the Godfather, Gone With the Wind, or fuck even Schindler's List, but Citizen Kane seems to me to be the best movie out of a fuckton of shitty ones from that era.

In 20 years I can definitely seeing Godfather at #1. There was a time when many believed Gone With the Wind was the best film ever, and when those people died out the new group of film sages nominated Citizen Kane.

The Searchers #96 to #12 mega bump. Respect
But the punks kicked Patton out, and ignored LA Confidential! Looks like they they quietly snuck 'Birth' out and replaced it with Intolerance. It would have been awkward with Morgan's presentation I suppose :o

and 20 year's after that schindler's list will likely be the #1 due to the spielberg generation being the elder film elites.

Spielberg hate annoys me soo much. His movies aren't stylish, they aren't "beautiful" - he does everything effortlessly. He knows how to perfectly convey whatever he wants onto the audience.

Am I the only one that doesnt like the Wizard of Oz at all?

I didnt see Brazil. Is it considered a foreign movie?

I am fairly certain Brazil was at least on the ballot for the new 100.  I would also not classify it as an American film.  All the writers, the director, and the main cast (aside from Dinero) are brits.  The producers were Americans, I think.  I guess it would fall into the category of "international" movies, like the Bond flicks.

gilliam's american-born, although i think he's a nationalized brit, now. i dunno.

again, honky, those are the movies i ENJOY the most, not the movies i think are the best. much of what i enjoy has very little or no artistic credibility, although the two often do intersect. my ability to appreciate something on a technical or artistic level is largely separate from raw personal appeal, which is often some inscrutable concoction of nostalgia, geek preference, sentimentality and timing -- y'know, the shit i provided wholly independent of the creator's original vision and execution

yeah, but again, not as a technical achievement. i am a sucker for occult thrillers, perez-reverte (even totally neutered and bastardized), and polanski. i find it a fun movie to regularly view as it preys on certain geeky preferences. i don't think it's a good movie; it's just one i really enjoy.

again, duders, pd's quoting that list out of context. i listed the ten movies that, at the time, i considered "comfort" movies -- movies i watch, well-made or otherwise, when i want something familiar and unchallenging. i think spielberg's a mediocre director, but raiders is easily the #1 movie i turn to when i wanna just pop something in and be amused for two hours. sure, it has some questionable performances, several cliched transitions, and hokey dialogue, but it's fun in a purely subjective way. i don't watch it to be challenged or engaged on an academic or artistic level, where appreciation is tantamount and indulgence is secondary; i watch it cuz HURR HURR NAZIS GET KILLED AND OMG THE ARK AND LULZ INDIANA JONES.

i enjoyed it less because of the perez-reverte roots and more because it was a polanski-directed moody occult thriller. same with me and dune: i don't measure the book-to-movie films against their original novels; i just take 'em as-is. well, except for all the godawful pk dick movies folks have been making. what the fuck, hollywood!
