Title: Valkyria Chronicle 2 is out
Post by: magus on September 03, 2010, 07:54:10 PM: i have an allergy both to SRPG and to sega games so the idea of playing a sega SRPG makes my skin crawl
still i guess somebody else might care so i tought making this thread would be a good idea

If you ignore the actual story and just enjoy the fact that it has Disney and the occasional Final Fantasy character in it along with a pretty fun battle system then you'll enjoy Kingdom Hearts. Just for all that is holy, do not pay attention to the story.

Post by: Van Cruncheon on September 04, 2010, 03:28:10 PM: vc2 and ys7 are both pecker-rockin' awesome. ys7 is great save for the initial 15 minutes and the last boss fight, and vc2 can be a bit too animu for its theme, but both are great purchases.

I haven't played VC1. :-[ I decided to pick it up and play that this weekend instead.

I can just extract this from it's archive, and bung it onto the game folder on my memory stick? I've got custom firmware. It runs emus and PS1 games, I've just never actually stolen a psp game before.

Going into more detail, Sceneman, make sure you have upgraded to the latest version of GEN-D (4 IIRC) and then upgrade to Prometheus from there if your PSP isn't up to date. Prometheus will play just about everything ripped with no need for patches of any kind.

I'm enjoying the hell out of it. It's the only real "game" I have time for between class and work other than of course Peggle XBLA and Plants vs Zombies XBLA.

I'm only up to March, though.

Oh and I'm disgustingly addicted to League of Legends on PC.

I am still playing Persona 3 Portable and also have MGS Peace Walker to get through. I'm getting Phantasy Star Portable 2 this week...would rather play that than Valkyria.

Mainly that:
-enemy turn speed is fast, so game is finally playable and not slooooooooooooooooow.
-main strategic game is great like the first
-graphics/music are great
-anime story is mehtastic

-very grindy in having to do tons of non-story missions to advance
-and that giving stuff individually by character post-battle is a dumb change.

Which was enough to tell me:
-I can skip this and play Layton 3 and go back to Narikiri Dungeon X for my portable gaming for the month.

Also small maps suck compared to the giant maps in the original. Fucking portables.

So you can start the mission out with only your captains, run your scouts to a base further ahead and deploy the rest of your squad there. And larger maps also give multiple ways to get to your next target, giving you lots of strategic options to consider, which is a huge plus.

But on missions where you are trying to run from point A to B ASAP, yeah the other units were worthless.
