Title: Keiji Inafune leaves Capcom
Post by: Oblivion on October 29, 2010, 09:03:38 PM
Quote
Keiji Inafune announced today via his blog that he will be leaving his position at both Capcom and Daletto at the end of the month. Inafune is currently CEO of Daletto and (deep breath) "Head of R&D Management Group and Consumer Games R&D Division and Contents Management Division" at Capcom.

As reason for his departure from Daletto, a Capcom subsidiary that handles online games management and business, Inafune wrote, "Work as a CEO requires speaking about your dreams and evaluating your subordinates. If you can do these two things, anyone can be CEO. I've always thought that, and I still do. However, I can no longer do these two at Daletto. I've lost the authority to evaluate my subordinates and the qualification to speak about my dreams."

As for Capcom, Inafune said that he'd reached the highest point in software development at Capcom and there are no additional steps for him to climb. "It would probably be good for me to sit gracefully in this seat and become a leading figure in the industry. However, I cannot do this. Settling down means death for a creator. As long as you are a creator, you cannot settle down."

He brought up an analogy to Akira Kurosawa, saying that the film director continued to make movies until he died. "He was a true creator who was recognized throughout the world."

"Capcom is truly a good company," continued Inafune. "I love Capcom. Probably more than anyone in the world. However, it's not always the case that your hopes are realized. Just as it was with the girlfriend I loved long ago."

"There was a chance that I could continue to be Capcom's power. I bet on that chance until the end. The means of both Capcom and myself to be happy. That was surely possible. However, now that chance is completely closed off."

Inafune also added that there probably won't be a chance for him to work with Capcom in the future. "Capcom must, from here on out, walk without me. I too can not depend on Capcom."

While the precise reasons of Inafune's departure aren't clear from the blog post, it looks like he came to the decision a while back. 4gamer posted an interview with Inafune today. In the interview, Inafune tells the site that he's leaving Capcom. The interview was originally conducted in the middle of this month, but the site held off on posting the interview until the timing of Inafune's announcement.

I think they just slapped his name on it. Jun Takeuchi was the lead producer on that... aka the guy who's replacing Inafune.

I'm glad Inafune is gone, but Takeuchi could be even worse in the end. Capcom :-\

It just baffles me why Capcom couldn't keep Mikami, Kajima, and now Inafune.  Nintendo seems to be opposite.  Locking up their main talent and keeping them with the company for their careers.

I'd rather have Hideaki Itsuno take over Capcom than Jun.

I mean he only directed:
Rival Schools
Powerstone 2
Capcom v. SNK2

DMC3
DMC4

He's the only person I care about still at Capcom.

dmc1 is the best
Title: Re: Keiji Inafune leaves Capcom
Post by: Bebpo on October 30, 2010, 07:51:14 PM
Really? I thought for sure he did DMC3...

DMC3 is my favorite DMC game, so does that make Hideaki Itsuno the better of the two?

I dunno.  I like both guys!  I think Kamiya has a little more cred though since he's made LOTS and lots of amazing games, while Itsuno has made a bunch of good games and one zomg game with DMC3.

dmc1 is the best

I dunno how anyone can say that, though a lot of people do.  DMC1 has the best atmosphere since it feels almost like an RE game.  Cool environments, cool bosses.  But the combat is really basic.  DMC3's combat has so much more depth and like 2-3x the amount of awesome bosses.
Title: Re: Keiji Inafune leaves Capcom
Post by: Cindi Mayweather on October 30, 2010, 08:09:18 PM
The combat itself is basic, but DMC1 has more threatening enemies that ACTUALLY TRY TO KILL YOU rather than just sitting there. See: the cats, the lizards, even the marionettes are more threatening and dangerous in DMC1. DMC1 also features better level design.

In terms of bosses I'd say the two are even, though.

yeah it also has loads of recycled content even tho it's like a four-hour game

an yeah the enemies are better but when your option for killing them are so limited it's not nearly as fun

DMC3 and NGB are the undisputed kings of the action genre. They're both so perfect, that they must share the crown.

NG2's combat is of course in a league of its own, but the game has a bunch of problems. NGB was pretty much flawless. NG2 is more fun though, fo sho.

No.  Bayonetta.

Post by: Beezy on October 31, 2010, 12:32:46 PM
I know some people have problems with Bayonetta's pacing, but it's battle system just flows so much better than the DMC games. They're extremely stiff in comparison.
Title: Re: Keiji Inafune leaves Capcom
Post by: Bebpo on October 31, 2010, 12:45:26 PM
I like Bayonetta a lot, but it's closer to DMC1 than DMC3/NG.  The battle system, like DMC1, doesn't feel as varied and deep as it could be.  All weapons share the same movelist for the most part and you're basically just doing strings while combo-offsetting when attacked.  I think Kamiya can make great core combat , but he hasn't proven to me he can make deep combat.  Maybe if Bayonetta 2 improves on Bayo with new gameplay systems and weapons that actually are unique it'll be the DMC3 to the DMC1.  DMC3 added more weapons with real-time weapon switching for combat making combo possibilities off the chart and multiple styles that each greatly changed how you played the game (Just Guard guy will be playing much different than Trickster guy).  It gives DMC3 so much variety and replayability because you can try different styles and focus on different weapons each time.  I want to see that amount of gameplay variety added to Bayonetta 2.

Yeah the SE is the same as the original Japanese release.  The first US release was during Capcom's "let's make everything harder for the US because they like CHALLENGE" phase.  Onimusha 4 got hit by that too.

I still need to play Bayonetta on higher difficulties, but on normal, it honestly didn't feel like some huge step above where DMC3 or 4 were at.  I thought DMC4 was great for the most part and it was mostly the stupid Nero->Dante->Nero lol fight the same boss like three times lol play dice shit that sucked.  Bloody palace showed how much fun the combat was in that game.  Plus it was the first time since DMC1 that I was totally digging the style and all that.  That is actually part of why I like DMC1 so much.  Other reasons are similar to what Himuro posted, but in general, the main story playthrough of DMC1 is more entertaining than DMC3, though, DMC3 did have better combat.

DMC1 Dante :rock

so badass he rises up letting that giant hilt pass through his chest instead of pulling the sword out, then he does the quickening thing from Highlander and uses it like a soccer ball.

about the Capcom thing in general, people are saying that it is the guy behind Lost Planet 2 and RE5, right? the worrying thing is that both those games had single player modes that were damaged by the multiplayer.  As someone who prefers single player games, it would suck if this guy tries to make a lot of their games forced co-op.

DMC1 blew my mind when it came out. DMC3 not so much, though I played it far more than I did DMC1. I love both games, honestly. I should replay them sometime.

And yes, that scene with Alastor was fucking batshit amazing.

DMC1 and Bayonetta were the two most fun titles I had with any of these 3D action titles, although I only played a little of DMC3 and DMC4.  I could not get into them for whatever reason, but I still would like to go back and play DMC3 SE at some point.  My PS2 backlog is atrocious.

For the record theres nothing wrong with the original DMC3

You gotta go JAPPA.  No Greatest Hits/Best hits labels, 100% in English.

Yeah, I was pretty down on Bayonetta after finishing it on normal.  Unimpressed.

Then after playing it on hard I loved it.  Hard should have been the default because that's where all the real fun is.  DMC4 was exactly the same in that respect.  Normal was mediocre, Hard was great (at least Nero's half was).
Title: Re: Keiji Inafune leaves Capcom
Post by: iconoclast on October 31, 2010, 04:43:55 PM
Dante is even more fun than Nero since he has tons more potential and versatility. Nero is pretty one dimensional, although he's still fun to play. The only real problem with DMC4 was the horrible level design. Having to play most stages twice certainly didn't help things either.

DMC3 US was just fine.
Title: Re: Keiji Inafune leaves Capcom
Post by: Raban on October 31, 2010, 11:16:52 PM
I'm probably going to be alone on this, but DMC4 is probably my favorite out of the series, strictly based on combat. The backtracking and it being half a game was a bummer, and the difficulty is a little low, but the addition of Nero's claw was awesome. It made the combos in DMC work a lot better.

I agree with Himu that the enemies in DMC1 were by far the best, I went from 3 to 1 recently and found just standing there, hacking away at enemies didn't work nearly as well as it does in DMC3.

NGB is by far the best action game I've played, and from what I've played of Bayonetta I'd say those two games are the king and queen of action games.

Very interesting as he gives his reasons, what he may do next and placed Capcom and the Japan industry on full blast.

Capcom "responds"

Quote
“We have been thinking about radical reforms in our R&D operations in response to the rapid changes taking place in our markets,” reads the report.

“As we were under preparation for executing these structural reforms, Mr. Inafune stated that he wants to continue working as an independent creator. Capcom accepted this request, which led to the announcement of his resignation.”

Capcom also discussed the future of the R&D group in the publisher, the group that Inafune led before he left

“Our goal is to build an organization able to develop software that matches market needs even more closely. Consequently, as I announced earlier today, we will hold meetings to reach decisions concerning the direction of our development activities and other important items.

“These meetings will bring together people from our R&D, business operations, quality control and other key units of our organization so that we can use opinions from many viewpoints.”

I've played them at friend's houses and on my brother's account (when he was home from school, and had his HD in the 360)... actually gonna go through Bayonetta on my account very very soon (like start up next week or so).

Not sure if I'd call 360 a japafag system but we have these fine examples of uguuuuuu exclusive, in the US, to 360:

the 360 is the best shooter and fighting game console since the Saturn. Actually it's probably already surpassed the Saturn now that I think about it.

:bow 360 :bow2

PS3 has taken over as the JRPG console in the last couple years though. 360 has been abandoned.

The US release? Probably in a double-pack with the brand new HD Tales, which is of course PS3 exclusive. :smug

I said console. ;)

The handheld RPG dominance is extremely overstated anyway. There aren't THAT many great, original RPGs on handhelds. Shit, the only one I've played that is on the level of the best console RPGs this gen is Devil Survivor.

Handhelds are cool if you're into downports and remakes though.
