Child's Play (2019)Meant to watch this during Halloween, but burned myself out in the first half of the month. There are a lot of pointless remakes, but this easily could not involve the Child's Play/Chucky branding and be its own thing, so what's the fucking point? The plot changes makes the actual Chucky doll unnecessary and pointless, could have been any smart device in your house. It changes the character and story to the point where it might as well be its own story entirely. Chucky is the spirit of a serial killer transferred into the body of a doll via voodoo. That's what makes it scary/entertaining/what it is. Having Chucky be wayward AI because a worker in a factory got yelled at by his boss so he decided to remove all the safety features is....not the character.
Tone wise it was very inconsistent, going from something akin to the first movie to closer to the Bride of Chucky versions to satire to borderline Robocop satire to gore fest to wink wink bullshit. I'm not sure Aubrey Plaza has had a single interaction with a child since she was a child before this movie

She felt like the babysitter or cool aunt at best, but certainly not a mother. The kid playing Andy was fine, Mark Hamill as Chucky was fine but Chucky doesn't have a personality because he's just an AI system so it really could have been anyone doing the voice.
I just don't really know why this was made, especially as the original continuity was doing fine as a DTV series and is getting a TV series anyway.
