My two friends and I will be seeing Toy Story 3 in 3D on weekend 1. We will proudly weep in joy.

http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/03/18/tim-burton-to-bring-us-new-addams-family-film-in-3d-stop-motion-animation/

Quote
news comes today that Tim Burton is to make his own Addams Family film. Like his upcoming Frankenweenie, the Addams project is to be made as a 3D stop-motion project, pretty much roping in all of Burton’s interests at once.

This is the director pretty much getting back to basic principles, I think, and returning to something very close to his core passions and influences. Of course, the wave of haters could see it as a caricatured play and “another sign” that he’s lapsed into self parody. Me? I’m going with the former reading.

According to Deadline New York, the project is set up at Universal’s Illumination Entertainment, and Illumination’s Chris Meledandri will be joined in producing the film by Kevin Miserocchi of the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation. So far, however, a writer is yet to be hired. Place your bets now: John August? Pamela Pettler? Or how about Caroline Thomspon and Larry Wilson, screenwriters who have not only worked on Burton pictures before but also actually wrote the first Addams Family movie.

MAN I CAN'T WAIT FOR HIM TO ANNOUNCE THE CAST!!!!

Up is great. I still think Monsters Inc is Pete Doctors better movie of the two. Up is great up to when they actually make it to South America and then it makes a massive tone and style shift.

Monsters is consistantly good and funny.

Netflix is delivering my Princess and the Frog tomorrow and I can't wait to see it since I missed it in theaters and that pissed me off.

Yes by far. I just watched Nemo again tonight and it still holds up even next to WALL-E.

I've seen Stanton in person a couple times and he's like a younger thinner Lasseter.

Here's my ranking

Finding Nemo/Wall-E (tied for #1)
Ratatouille
Toy Story
A Bug's Life
Toy Story 2
Monster's Inc.
The Incredibles (used to by my number 1, but I outgrew it, and out of every movie, it's aged the worst visually imo)
UP
Cars

I don't get the hate for Cars. It isn't very good by Pixar's standards, but it's still better than most children's movies. And UP I rank pretty lowly simply because the pacing is all over the damn place, and the antagonist is kind of cookie cutter for a Pixar film.

And Ratatouille is straight up underrated as fuck. That movie and its soundtrack blow my mind.

Speaking of Pixar movie soundtracks

I'm baffled by anyone who would rank Monsters Inc and A Bug's Life over The Incredibles, but I guess that's why we have opinions.

Because

The Incredibles was good but not great, I enjoyed at first but it isn't what I'd call rewatchable.

That's why. I can watch, and have watched, Finding Nemo and Wall-E a million times and enjoyed every time just as much as the last. The Incredibles is so much better in memory than it is in reality.

Don't get me wrong, I love it, but it's too blockbuster. Though, it doesn't surprise me that a vocal fan of Avatar finds the most popcorn Pixar film to be the best :smug

Wall E wasn't really rewatchable either.

The first time was great, then it kept getting more boring every time I watched it until I lost all interest in seeing it again

:(

I really enjoy it still. The visuals are brilliant.

I feel completely differently about it. To me, The Incredibles is the only Pixar film that I can constantly rewatch. I could probably watch that one once a week with no problem.

I'd go:
Up
Wall-E
Incredibles
Toy Story 1

*Everything else*

I never go what was so great about Ratatouille.  TS I liked because it was my first CG movie and it's just memorable but I've rewatched it since then and know it's not that amazing compared to their current output.  Incredibles was really fun but Wall-E and Up were the only ones I really got blown away by and attached to the characters.  I've never seen any other animated movie with characters as likable as the boy and old man in Up.

Watched In the Loop last night and couldn't believe how hilarious it was.  I probably should've watched it again before tossing it back in the mailbox because I'm sure I missed at least a quarter of the dialouge, especially in the beginning.

So since I'm sick as shit, my weekend will be on consisting of Video Games and movies.

Here's the lineup

-The Collector
-Cabin Fever 2
-The Dead Outside
-Survival of the Dead
-Green Zone (if i'm feeling well enough to go to the theaters)

I'm most interested in is Survival, cause there's a big part of me that wants a Romero comeback.

I did, they were all great.  A few of them are so good that I can't even fathom how they could've justified removing them.  Also, it seems like Liza doesn't even really come alive until you watch her deleted scenes.  All that stuff left out is fantastic.

Same.

I am the anti-general pick Pixar guy.

I didn't care for Wall-E (love the earth stuff, space stuff didn't do much for me), The Incredibles, Up (well, I actually really like the first half, but dislike the 2nd half), or Finding Nemo.
I loved Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc, Ratatouille
I thought Cars was ok considering all the negative hype going in

To be fair, the movie does have a focus on the intemperate side of Thompson's business in Vegas.  The flick touches the cultural observation a bit here and there, but generally presents it as drug-induced rambling, not serious conversation.

Saw Sherlock Holmes last night.

Thought little of it. There were some funny moments, the costumes were dashing and the music was entertaining. Felt a little half-assed though. Comedy bits got no help from the editing and the cinematography was annoyingly bland when it was quite apparent that there were opportunity for better stuff, especially considering the nice backdrops. The CGI was strange as well. Also, I felt the whole "black magic" thing was a waste.
That was about how I felt too. Costumes were totally sweet. The comedy was out of place (though I did laff), and what the hell was the whole point of showing Holmes investigating the actual rituals?

Watched Princess and the Frog. I think it's about equal to Aladdin. And like Aladdin is a bit slow before he gets the lamp, this is slow until they get into the swamp but then it's great.

I was also really surprised that there is a death in the movie. The Eisner era would never have allowed that.

Keith David was surprising casting for the Shadow Man, but he worked. Louis is one of my favorite Disney characters now.

Saw Repo Men last nite, girlfriend wanted to see it instead of Hot Tub Time Machine.  :-\ The movie was really bad... actually, it started off with a bit of promise, the whole slightly futuristic dystopian setting- but they didn't really do much at all with the setting or provide any background. Then about 1/3 of the way through the movie, it turned into pure silliness/cheese... was highly reminiscent of an 80's sci-fi B movie... and the the end:

Watched The People Vs. Larry Flynt last night.  Fucking loved it.  Some great court scenes. I realized how much of a dork I am during the supreme court scene...I squealed when edward norton told justice scalia about a political cartoon from the 1700s that depicted George Washington.  That's the kind of thing Scalia would love!

Courtney Love did a good job playing herself.

I'm bored so I was flipping around just vegging out watching TV and I stumbled upon something called Sorority Wars on lifetime. This is the most hilarious piece of shit movie I've ever seen. Like all lifetime movies its taking something that is completely frivolous and complete bullshit but treating it in the most earnest and serious manner possible. It is awesome.

Shutter Island

pretty great. I knew what the twist would be (who didn't?) but it was the context around the twist, the full logic explaining it, that helped it from feeling cheap. I really like twist endings like this. When the full reveal was taking place my mind started to review the film in my head and little detailed jumped out. Little details that where emphasized just enough to stand out but not enough to be blatant. For example:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
When they arrive at the gate and are ordered to release their firearms, Chuck fumbles with his gun. This obviously is because he's not really a federal marshal.

I feel that this is one of the best usages of a twist ending I've seen in a very long time.

Acting and visuals were fantastic as well. I really enjoyed watching this movie
