Beauty and the Beast at last! :rock By far my favorite Disney movie.

I have a very nice 720p rip of it that my daughter has watched about 50 times already. The BR will get watched about 200x I predict.

You should take her to see it on the big screen when they re-release it next year.

the best thing about that movie was that Universal released a ton of their classic horror movies on DVD that year.

I was gobsmacked watching Van Helsing, it was just so impossibly stupid.  There was just one line that I laughed at that was intentionally funny.  Everything else was just highly expensive crap.

I'm trying to think of a recent summer blockbuster-type film she didn't like, and I honestly can't think of one. If a movie features coarse language or young characters acting arrogant/talking back to their parents, she'll complain...at least until the next explosion happens.

No, that's Sukiyaki Western Django, which feature horrid English dialogue from Korean actors. And Quentin Tarantino.

This is the movie I'm talking about:

If it makes it to Japan, that'd be awesome. She's still a little young to sit through a whole movie in a theater right now (2yrs, 5 months) so we had to pass on Princess and the Frog. But maybe by next year.

What if the Coen Brothers were Danish, and what if they made a small town, modern day neo-noir that's a little like Blood Simple but not really but retained their bleak humor, deliberate strangeness, and awfully wide mean streak?  Well, it might be a bit like Terribly Happy, which in no major or minor way does suck, but aside from the nationality of the setting, doesn't feel completely original either.  That's not a bad thing by any means, and there's still much, very much to enjoy here(hell, film noir plots pretty much improve anything).

Its just that the setting is so very well realized that it becomes a tad disappointing that there isn't more attention paid to the periphery, I would have loved to have spent more time with the many oddball character populating this film, but instead I get the lions share of the attention to the new marshall in this very strange little town and his dawning understanding of what being a good citizen there means.  Its one of those almost great movies, the kind you like, but you know coulda stood to have liked a whole lot more.

I patronize three companies when ever I indulge my inner manchild.  Nintendo, Pixar, and Studio Ghibli.  Miyazaki and his studio never fail to make me feel like a kid again.  What I most love about it is the attention to detail that permeates the animation, the character development, the interactions, everything.  Its hard to articulate.

Triangle

Did not like this!  Was basically Time Crimes except full of illogical plot holes.

In Time Crimes the guy is not beyond believably an idiot!  He remembers how events happened and tries to change them.  In Triangle, the girl is like SO STUPID IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO ENJOY THIS MOVIE.  She makes a half-assed effort to change things the 2nd time, but then the 3rd time when she could actually change shit she basically gives up.  The 3rd time was very boring because you knew A) exactly how everything was going to play out with no surprises and B) the girl was unwilling to circumvent A by trying to do anything different.  It was a total borefest and then on top of that she is a HORRIBLE PSYCHO and you can't even feel any pity for her after all the stuff at the end.  Plus she is just so so dumb in everything she does.  In Time Crimes the guy wasn't a genius, but at least he was semi-intelligent on a believable level.  That made the movie work.  The girl here is just too dumb and oblivious and unlikable which makes the plot not very satisfying.  The first act of the movie was really good.  It was suspenseful and had good atmosphere, it's just that the 2nd act doesn't work as well and the 3rd act sucks all because it's a badly written version of an interesting plot idea.

Also 2 questions before I go look up stuff on the movie.
1) why was she fine after the car wreck?
2) why is it that she doesn't remember this stuff?  Are we supposed to assume she's traumatized from the car wreck?  If so, I'm ok with this plot point.

Dug It. Best Ellen Page role by a mile? I think so. And the writing succeeds at everything that Juno tried, but failed to do.

I actually agree with you. This means one of two things

Either it's a fluke, or I've just buried my opinions on film even deeper than they already were.
