Apparently, the DVD release totally fucks up the translation from the original theatrical release.

magnolia heard the cry and they're re-doing the dvd

the tell is "subtitles: english (theatrical), spanish"

no exchange for current owners though

No, it was a takeoff on a real silly fansubbism that was similar and arguably even more ridiculous, though.

I just watched this last week. The DVD subtitles were OK. I never felt confused because the subtitles were inscrutable.

Like Duckman said, you could probably watch the film without any subtitles.

I watched the movie and never noticed any problems. But, now I feel cheated, like someone gave me a really great steak and then after I ate the steak they said "Oh yeah, but you could have had this really awesome steak that's even better".
