blech, the new Broadcast is kinda shit.

well, unless you like everything before Tender Buttons. But even then it's mostly psychedelic instrumental stuff, some of which works, a lot of which doesn't. There are about 2 actual songs with lyrics. None of the glitchy, synthy song-based stuff from TB that I love sooooo much.

damn straight...when I used to be a Phish fan, I saw them cover Good Times Bad Times, which was instrumentally perfect and lyrically all fucked up, as is the norm with phish covers. In any case, that was about as close as I'll come to seeing Zeppelin live...totally loud and yeah, that fuck awesome drum beat shaking my whole body. Oh wait, except for the Page and Plant show when I was 13, but I hardly remember it and didn't appreciate it enough

not bad mouthing, just describing. At War With The Mystics was good, but I'm glad they broke it off there. and yeah, I haven't paid too much attention to them in a while and just heard about Christmas on Mars...definitely going to snag it.

Can't wait to listen to this whole album on my bus ride today!

No, it's just I found the first album back in 2002 while looking for new bands, and I really liked it a lot. Then, for a while, I forgot about them, and found a ton of new stuff and fell right back in love. I didn't think anyone really listened to them. I didn't realize they were big.

And I don't usually read through this thread. A lot of it is crap. But I was looking for some new music.

I thought you said you were liking it on your second listen? Anyway, it's clearly not in the same vein as their last few releases, but after At War with the Mystics I don't think that's a bad thing. They're pretty good at recognizing when they need to move on. And whoever mentioned the Christmas on Mars soundtrack is totally on point; that album really helps to bridge the gap.

I started to like a few standout tracks, but as an album as a whole it's entirely boring and messy. Aquarius Sabotage, Ego's Last Stand, and Watching The Planets were the only ones I thought to myself "wow these are awesome." I'm okay with the praise its getting though because I can see why people like it, it's just not my type of music. I enjoy melody, especially if its uplifting, and Yoshimi was almost entirely that mixed in with some great harmony as well.

My holy rap trinity: Illmatic, Resurrection, Liquid Swords. At this point in his career imo, GZA didn't waste lines/lyrics, something that can't be said of many rappers; that's Rakim/Kane/KRS level. It has some of the most descriptive social commentary and glimpses into street life, and he crafted one of the best mafioso rap tracks (Killah Hills 10304) while he was at it. Oh, and RZA's production is amazing
