Spent the evening discovering Joyce Manor. Holy crap, these guys are good! I don't like their latest album as much as their first 2 cds, but it's still solid. The first two albums are AWESOME though. Great energy.

Been a while since I found a new punk band that I like.

People in the comments sections of Burial vids always get reaaaally pretentious trying to describe his music. Thought it was fascinating to see how much better the dude himself is at verbalizing the moods his music is supposed to evoke.

Yeah its one of those things you don't try to explain, you're personal experience will pale in comparison to the track itself where I relate to my own experiences. Once in a while you know the feels though.

...found her through spotify which is a damned good similar artist system. Better then Last.fm and much better than Zune / Xbox Music whatever.

The new Local Natives is out right now in several fashions. The iTunes stream is playing at my office right now. I really disliked their first album but this new one is taking to me much much more. They've got pretty much the best aspects of Grizzy Bear and Fleet Foxes together and made a sound very distinctly their own. It's pretty great so far.

I bought Hearttrob on Tuesday, I think it's pretty okay so far.

I was pretty skeptical of the more pop tone the album was going for but I think it works. It's not some big evolution on the music they like to make but it's a very lean 10-track album that feels perfectly solid. And hey, good on them for having a radio-ready album without it feeling like pandering or "selling out".

I think the album is a bit frontloaded with the kind of pop I like, and the backend is a lot of the pop I generally dont like. If its gonna get EMO, I dont want pop emo- I want SOME FUCKIN EMO. That said they gotta change their tune eventually- you'll notice the gradual change they've been making if you listen to The Con/Sainthood/Heartthrob back to back. Garbage kinda made the same shift with Beautiful Garbage after 2.0 which I didn't like at all, but as a fan I gotta respect an artists desire to change over the course of a decade. There's plenty of other stuff to listen to if an artist moves away from the kind of music I like.
