I can't believe you gave in to the normals.  you're not a hipster at all.  hand in your hipster badge.

He's only a fan of Embryonic... ironically.

Or until Pitchfork slams it.

Then he'll have to turn in his hipster badge.

Also, The xx's "xx" is really fantastic, and Jason Lytle's new album "Yours Truly, the Commuter", which is as if Grandaddy were still together and never started to suck.
xx is awesome.  i really dig drowsy 3am type music, so i think this is it for me.  bat for lashes might be number 2 so far.

Yeah, that sound is right up my alley.  I can't really describe it -- it's like early Pastels meets Portishead or something.

I spent about two weeks straighting listening to Thirlwell's stuff. It's incredible. I brought the disc to me with Los Angeles, and I'm trying to make a hard push on some producers to contact him if we move forward with our project.

No One's First and You're Next is just some B-sides, right? I have a big boner for Modest Mouse, but they release a new collection of B-sides, like, every 2 years.

While I was working on my script for the project, Thirlwell's stuff was in constant rotation.

I'm working on a spec script that I think he'd be perfect for. I am going to aim to be a producing partner on that one, just so I can campaign to get Thirlwell. :lol

Heh, Dan Deacon is from near here, and a few of my friends have seen him slumming it at local shows before his big break. I remember seeing him as a Facebook friend of this girl who is like your total typical LI girl, being surprised that she'd be into something so 'hipster', then found out they went to HS together.

I don't really have an AOTY actually, not really too many memorable DJ mixes have come out, and I don't listen too much to full length albums (since in dance music, they usually tend to be pretty boring).

I really liked Cicada - Roulette, Mirko Loko - Seventynine, Way Out West - We Love Machine, and for DJ mixes, Joris Voorn's Balance 014. Still waiting to hear the Luciano album.

I want the song "Climb on Board the Train" from this site - http://www.rescuerecords.net/artistinfo.asp?ArtistID={1844F1F6-E596-4653-9AB5-91008B47A884}  but I'm unable to purchase it.  I called the Pasadena number on the site but the lady told me that their previous company that they used for online purchases has gone under and don't sell anything from their online "store".  I offered to buy the CD straight out but she said it wasn't available.  *sigh*

Anyway, I can't find this song ANYWHERE online.  Anyone have any suggestions or maybe one of you guys already have it....if so let's swap.

Pretty good album, I have to say. I was impressed by their variety quite a bit. I went in expecting a straight up metal album but got something entirely different.

I'll check out Absentia next.

As someone who loves David Bowie's Low I was looking for something similar by another artist and I was suggested Brian Eno, mostly due to his work on the Bowie's album itself. So I started with Another Green World.

This album was fantastic. I didn't find it nearly as haunting or crazy as Low but...it was good stuff. I really have to check Eno's ambient stuff, because that crap is really up my alley.

I've always loved Queen. It's impossible not to due to Mercery's charisma on the mic and the stage. But when I listened to Night at the Opera, I thought it was a pretty good album, but with a lot of filler and pacing issues.

Wembley however, is excellent, both discs, from beginning to end. It stands as one of the better live albums I've heard. Mercury's love is felt entirely on stage and you can tell he's having the best time of his life. The live version of A Kind of Magic on this album is definitely my favorite: the amount of enerrgy displayed is really impressive.

It's really hard to not like Wembley, because after all, at the end of One Vision, Freddie cries out,"FRIED CHICKEN!" out of nowhere.

I like a couple of songs on this, but I wasn't impressed overall. I don't think it's my type of rock: too loud, not melodic enough, over emphasis on electric without making me want to jam to it, noisy for the sake of noise.

It's certainly a good album, and I love and have recognized many of the songs since childhood (Black Hole Sun in particular), but  I was meh on quite a lot of songs.

King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King is the album I have been listening to the most this past week, old or new. Every time I listen to it, I find something I like about it. I have to say, compared to the other 60's rock I've been exposed to, this album makes them all sound amateur to me. I can't skip a single song on this lp.

While I don't think Loaded is nearly as good as Velvet Underground and Nico, it's still pretty great. I really have much to say about it aside from the fact it has gotten lots of rotation on my zune this past week alongside VU and N.

------------

In non-old album news I've mostly been listening to Flaming Lips's Embroyonic, Muse's Resistance (yes, still), Islands' Vapours, and Dinosaur Jr's Farm. Pearl Jam's Backspacer is pretty damn good too.

The Flaming Lips - Embryonic

They're all excellent. Embryonic is currently main contender for album of the year for me, it's so good. Prior to this I couldn't really think of anything worthy of the title. It's 18 tracks, and yet it feels like the album only lasts 15 minutes every. single. time. Fantastic stuff, and I plan on supporting it upon release.

Overall, an excellent week in music for me.

I like a couple of songs on this, but I wasn't impressed overall. I don't think it's my type of rock: too loud, not melodic enough, over emphasis on electric without making me want to jam to it, noisy for the sake of noise.
