yeah, i'm pretty busted there.  but bethesda's past games took little to no skill, aside from right at the beginning when you're level 1, and on top of that it's not like combat is balanced or even anything more than just a little competent in all of their games.  The "hard" parts of Oblivion were wholly due to jankiness.  I'm somehow doubting it's suddenly Dark Souls quality gameplay the whole way through.

how does difficulty mean something is a better game? SMB2j is harder than Mario 1 and it sucks. and if it's like demon's souls, it's probably not that hard anyways, it's probably mostly just "learning the level" like a mega man game. the biggest mistake gamers make is equating dying to a game's challenge. they are two different concepts.

what are you even responding too  ???    i was talking about balance and game mechanics, not difficulty.

i like bethesda games, but they don't hit many of the right notes for me and get boring once I start actually leveling up.  Or in Oblivion's case, the enemies just become hit sponges because they fucking level with you automatically :lol

I think I'll try to get a decent score out of Futari 1.5 Original before the end of the year (like 300-350 million). I played a couple credits just now and found that all I really need to practice is stage 5 and Larsa; I can no miss no bomb the rest of the game, so I just need to string it all together in a real run. Already beat my old score in a run I was about to trash because it was going so poorly.

I think both 1.5 Original and Black Label Original are kinda crap as far as Cave goes (which means they're still better than most games 8)), but maybe I'll change my mind by the time I'm done. Probably not though.

anyhow I finally got around to playing Portal 2.

I went from disliking the game at the start, thinking it was a rehash which relied entirely on riffing on the meme humor which neckbeard nerbos love to JO over.

But man, is this game a top quality product. The polish, the easter eggs, the intricate puzzles, the innovative storytelling. Almost at the end now and loving it. Going to go for 1000 even!

Oh, and I havent touched co-op yet, so if anyone has beaten co-op and needs the "Professor Portal" achievement (help a new player do co-op tutorial if you have finished the game), hit me up for an easy 75 gamerscore. (I'm playing on 360, of course).

co-op is the best part of that product. the single player is too self-indulgent and tries too hard with the jokes imo. just like with the transition from HL1 to 2 they forgo the simplicity of a neat set-up and incidental story beats in favor of flash and exposition dumps.

Playing the co-op was best on split screen for me as half the fun is the frustration of not being able to work together and throwing pillows at each other with the sexual tension of a quarreling gay couple.

SNK read my anger about not being able to run P.O.W on any of the PS3 arcade emulators and now they're releasing it as a Mini sometime soon (it's on the discount list for U.S. PS+ Christmas deals.)  First good decision they've ever made as a company

for an optimal portal 2 co-op experience be sure to never use the in-game high light system in favor of yelling vague directions and pointing at the tv.

Totally bought this Mini last night to ease the pain of waiting for P.O.W.

Street Smart:

super frustrating game as a kid when you spend quarters on it, but I sort of learned how to play it on its own shitty terms and found it enjoyable.  It's not a completely incompetent pre-SFII fighter, but the controls are pretty damn awkward.  You can sort of combo, but it's more like frame-trapping/resetting and all dependent on finicky button press timing.  Plus, you collect women as the prize for every fight.  The sprites are pretty nice.

I wanna compare the credits with KOF staff because it seems like there are a few character designs that are similar to KOF characters--- main character = Takuma, one of the bosses looks a bit like Mr. Karate.

I will check that out, but Street Smart is a weird beat em up fighting game, all one-on-one matches.  You travel the U.S. collecting women, then you realize the women all look like the same woman with different hairstyles, but in the end you realize you get to bang octuplets in the middle of a stadium full of people.

replaying Wind Waker

the intro to this game is so much snappier than skyward sword.  granted, the first thing you do is a stealth mission, but the actual 'tutorial' is like a minute.  also forgot that the combat is basically "press A when it flashes."

Still playing 4 Heroes of Light, collecting the last few Legendary Weapons. Game has its moments, but I don't really care much for its busted battle system.

Afterwards... gonna wait til break and then gonna finally play Himusona 3 :uguu

Yep, I loved that and the sailing, it isn't like the dungeons in that game were anything special anyway.

I thought the dungeon with the big fan in it was pretty cool... but yeah WW definitely had the weakest dungeons in the 3D Zeldas apart from Skyward Sword.

I like most of the characters actually. Specifically for the little voice samples that they use instead of voice work. my favorite being the dude on top of the starter island that has a looking glass and is all like "HOO!". I cheated and considered that part of the presentation so I could shorten the list of things I liked.

FFFFFFFUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKK

I was literally two pixels away from no missing Mushi Futari 1.5 Original. I died on one of the lightning fast purple bullets during Larsa's final attack, then spawned and finished her off immediately. I feel sick.

(score = 388,845,510 - ALL (Lx4) - N.Reco; ranked #9 on the leaderboards, so that's not bad at least)

edit: I actually find 1.5 Original pretty enjoyable now. It's a slow burn though - the game is it at its peak after you no miss up to the start of stage 5. That's when the adrenaline and nerves really kick in, because your entire run can go to hell at any moment. And that's the best feeling ever, which I can only get it from shooters because they're high-risk, high-reward. Best genre ever. :bow

I think I'm too impatient for Wind Waker sailing these days.

I was about to complain about how I had to sail across the world but as I left the game on behind me auto-sailing, I went into a tornado and now I'm at my destination.  It's nice the game realized I wasn't touching the controller and went the extra mile!

was stumped for what to play on the Xbox so I stuck Shadows of the Damned in, as I realised that I never even finished it once.

Games pretty good, mindless fun. Up to the final boss now. Generous with the gamerscore too, but 3 plays for 1000 is BS. I doubt I'll go for 1000 unless I REALLY get strapped for shit to play.

I want Gears 3  :(

playing two 3D Zelda games back to back is pretty draining

although it's my favorite series, the isms get annoying.  like you go through this whole ordeal  to reach this chest, and you open it expecting an item.  instead you get a map to an item.  for some inexplicable reason there's an extra step involving several minutes of sailing to another location just to get the item.  the item turns out to be 200 rupees; your wallet is full and the rupees get wasted.  side quests: collect things or transport things.  which was fine in MM, but sailing is pretty boring when you just want to get somewhere; actually sailing to explore is nice (if you ignore the barrenness).  the 2D games were really concise and didn't waste your time.  Skyward Sword would actually be the best realization of that in 3D if you took out the overworld, tutorial stuff, side quests, padding in the second half, etc etc.

I was originally planning on doing Wind Waker and then Twilight Princess  :lol

yeah, I'm gonna do Wind Waker without sidequests (shaddap OCD), then hopefully on Tuesday I can catch the Dark Knight Rises prologue and get so jacked up on Batman hype  that I'd come home and start Batman AC.

I really should be playing new games, but I wanted something I'm familiar with since I have work to do too, and wind waker is brief enough.

crazy thing is just today I remembered I own Crysis 2, Dead Rising 2, and a few other games I haven't played...and I still need to buy Skyrim and Saint's Row 3   :fbm

I think some of the staff who made Fatal Fury worked on Street Smart...the games have a similar style of 2P play (both players versus the CPU, then each other) and the music from stage 1 is the 2P versus theme in Fatal Fury.  :)

Just got a 286m clear with Normal Palm in Futari 1.5 Original. The run was pretty crap, but it was one of the first times I've played with Normal Palm, so I didn't know what to expect. He's fun to use, but his laser is really weak (even worse than N.Reco's), so he sucks at killing bosses and some large enemies (the flying dragons in st5 in particular). His shot is really strong though, so he's not completely terrible.

Still gonna play a little more so I can get a decent Original score with Abnormal Palm. Might try to improve my N.Reco score too - 400+ million would be nice.

edit: Also, I think I'm going to resume my Bayonetta playthrough with Jeanne pretty soon. Gotta unlock everything and beat Normal + Hard, then I'm going to start a Pure Platinum Infinite Climax run with her. Some areas with Bayonetta were really hard, so I hope it isn't too much worse with Jeanne... especially since I'm really rusty.

started up a Mass Effect 2 hardcore run on PS3 without new game+.  Seems doable so far, though I'm guessing I have lots of bullshit deaths ahead of me and that I'll have to exploit bad AI a lot.

i understand objectively all the problems with ME2, but once I get into the club on Omega and play out the conversation with Aria, I just don't care.  It's great.

Bioware really knows how to make an alien bar in general.  I remember loving the atmosphere in KOTOR1.

Have fun fighting those Praetorians. :P Squad AI goes full distinguished mentally-challenged fellow during those fights and the resultant frustration made me turn the difficulty down from insanity to hardcore, which makes them only slightly less annoying.

Been playing more Futari 1.5 Original, with Palm this time. Got 358m with Abnormal and 305m with Normal. Abnormal Palm is a pain in the ass to play because his shot is so weak, so I think the stages are a little harder for him than any of the other characters. Normal Palm's shot is strong, but his laser is stupid weak so I usually have to bomb some parts of stage 5 and the a few of the bosses. He's still fun to use though, more fun than Abnormal Palm imo.

I'm right at the end of Phoenix Wright as well, so I'm about to finish that up. I was playing it last night, but I failed the last trial and had to mash A for 25 minutes to get back to where I was, so I fell asleep. Gonna finish it now.

Marvel Pinball is pretty good!  Haven't gotten really into a pinball game since Williams HoF, but I can see myself getting into these 4 tables.  The only thing I don't like is the ball moves too fast at times and sometimes does bizarro physics.

Also the Spiderman table has too much stuff blocking visibility.  Wolverine is not as bad in that respect.  Haven't tried the other two.
