Just beat Espgaluda 2 BL (with Seseri). I was having a pretty shitty run, survival wise, so I'm kinda surprised I cleared it. Did decently with the scoring though, so I wound up with 1.622 billion. Not a bad score, but still pretty mediocre imo (ranked #21). Great game though, definitely one of Cave's better console modes. And I appreciate that it isn't as oppressively difficult as vanilla Galuda 2. :)

the breath of fire 2 re-translation is super professional, they went and hacked the menu so it has a scrolling inventory a-la final fantasy and they expanded the max letter possible for item so you have stuff like "copper sword" instead of "copperswrd"
Link to the re-translation?

MGS2.  just finished the "find pacemaker dude" part.  Great game and still got 3 and Peacewalker to look forward to.  MGS HD Collection might be the best thing ever.

Dynasty Warriors 7: my most played game this year. Between 50 hours of the ps3 version and 30 hours of the 360 version so far. Mashin', combos, loot, levels, conquest, history, fantasy, politics. Love me some DW. May import Warriors Orochi 3 later.

Final Fantasy XIII: replaying for XIII-2, much better on replay. Replay reminds me there are lots to like about the game.

Skyrim: my reserve game. Do a few quests, play something else. Not boring per se, it's still awesome efen 60 hours in. But the endless stream of content means I can jump in any time and do something new. Great for. Oth casual and hardcore play.

playing the shit out of zelda 2 and put a few hours into VF5 PS3.

played some mario 3d land yesterday and holy fuck at that first vertical level.  Now that is a good case for 3D, but too bad that this early game will probably be the pinnacle of 3D functionality for the system's entire life span.

I've been playing a lot of Final Fantasy XIII lately and it's pretty great. Love the battle system [especially how positioning and chaining arts really make a huge difference], the massive environments [and the way you get different moods/music depending on whether it's day or night], and the characters and cutscenes aren't too bad. I mean, they're not exactly great or anything, but they do get the job done and keep from being overly annoying like in a lot of JRPGs. Oh wait...this is Xenoblade.

I started Torchlight on X360. Is Hardcore as descriptive as it sounds? I picked Hard for now to get a feel for the game.

Yeah, Final Fantasy XIII is the game with the immortal dude traveling around the world trying to regain his memory, with a great Uematsu soundtrack, a turn-based battle system, lots of sidequests, and poignant stories layered throughout the game. Oh wait, that's Lost Odyssey.

I started Persona 3 for the first time... just made it past the first time you go to Tartarus... awesome so far but I wish there were more chances to save. The intro is VERY long...

Torchlight is super casual on Hard mode. I shoulda picked Very Hard or Hardcore (though I'm not interested in perma-death).

Oh well, trudging through it.

Started Ys 1 & 2 on PSP. Good stuff.

Dark Souls - I hate this game. Seething, raging, LOATHE. And I'll preface this by saying that it's really, really good game. The reason for my hate is that I simply don't have the patience to play a game that's specifically designed to make me die over and over again, which is what Dark Souls is designed to do. Open the wrong door? Oops, there's a super-powerful monster in here that's way faster than you are and can kill you in one hit. Go the wrong way [which is easy since there's no map]? Oops, there's some normal monsters here but they're way above your level. Even the normal, everyday monsters are really fast and really strong, so only a few hits is enough to put you on the ground and force you fight your way back through that same group of monsters until you finally get past them [and find yourself face to face with the next group, repeat]. But it is really, really good.

Hamilton's Great Adventure

Cleared.  ALL GOLDS.  This is my Ninja Gaiden 2 1000/1000 achievement.  Getting golds on the final level of the last two worlds was HARD, took a lot of concentration and tries.  But the game was so good and so much fun I really wanted to clear it 100%.  Top5 downloadable game this gen for me.  How these guys went from doing Lead & Gold deathmatch game to aweeeeesome puzzle game I don't know, but I can't wait to see what they do next.  This studio (fatshark) is one to look out for in the future.  Maybe in 5 years they'll be the next Rocksteady.

Finally got 1000/1000 in a Saints Row title. Feels good, man. I'm a little bit sad that it was the shortest Saints Row, and the only one with no competitive multiplayer, but this was still the best one yet. If I ever get a chance to work on an Open World Game, there are several things I'll be taking from SR3, straight-lifting, shamelessly.

Skyrim's about 70 hours and Deus Ex is about 25, and much more linear. Just comes down to personal preference on which you should play first.

I see. I really don't have a lot of free time during the next two weeks, so Deus it.

I have to spam how Type-0 has the best fucking music; FF music hasn't been this good since Liberali Fatali opening in FFVIII.

Imagine if the story was actually a really good epic tale with powerful satisfying moments going along with this score.  Would be best FF in years, if not best rpg.  But instead, the story is usual SquareEnix mess and the soundtrack is kind of a waste considering it's A+++

Got a free copy of Portal 2 thanks to the PS3 steam pack-in, so I played that for a few hours yesterday. That game takes a little while to pick up, but I feel it's finally getting to the good stuff
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Most of puzzles up to "The Surprise" were fairly boring imo, but it picks up a little after that. I'm a few areas into Cave Johnson's test chambers right now... also this game feels like it's going to be short.

And Virgil is amazing in UMvC3. Think I'll be adding him to whatever team I wind up using (I used Wesker/Wolverine/Akuma in MvC3, dunno who's good now)

Also, holy shit, I am awful at Ketsui now. Can barely get 60-70 million. Skill decay is horrible with shooters :'(

edit: Yay, 100m up to the stage 5 mid-boss. At least the re-learning process is really fast.

i gave up on breath of fire 2,breath of fire it's that game that i really want to like but the pacing is so horrible that i always end up quitting near the midway and ask myself "why the fuck did i play this?"

i remember playing breath of fire 3 and really the animation and the spritework is awesome, the music is good, but then you need to get ingriedient for a sushi or some filler bullshit like that and the game crumble like a card castle

so since i still wanted to scratch my rpg itch and i didn't want to pick the same usual suspect,i went for lufia 2,battle goes a lot quicker and the zelda-like dungeon help me distract everytime someone ask me to find a key or something... plus i heard that at the end there is a kind-of-roguelike bonus dungeon and i'm a total sucker for that :omg

I played Rising almost exclusively until I felt like I could clear Arcade on 1 credit. Then after I 1cc'd Arcade, I went back to Rising and played the specific stages that would give me trouble until I learned how to deal with everything. That's the fastest way to learn the game imo, as long as you don't rely on Rising-exclusive powerups like triple jumps or super powered weapons, etc.

Sayuri is arguably the best character in the game as well. Her biggest advantage is that she doesn't lose her weapon when she gets hit, so you don't have to play as safely as you do with everyone else. Regular characters like Bahamut can become more powerful overall if you're holding a lvl 3 chain laser and machine gun, but if you get hit once you'll drop whatever weapon you're holding, and then you may be in trouble. Just depends what you want to do.

Last night I wasted almost 90 minutes in Deus Ex just flipping through the settings. When I set everything to 1080 and high, I get 60fps and 45fps during shooting sections, but when I switch to a lower resolution I get a smooth 60, but with the blurriness as a tax.

Holy shit settle on something motherfucker!

Finished Portal 2 just now. Great game, better than the original. Only flaw is that it starts out a little slow when it's still in the tutorial phase I guess, but it really picks up once they introduce the gels and other new features. Going to start the co-op campaign tomorrow probably.

Story was good too. Wheatley :bow

Started playing Rage as well.  Oh my god, this game looks ridiculous.  This is the first game that looks like what I imagine PS4/X720 games will look like.  It just looks insane and it runs buttery smooth 60fps all the time maxed at 1080p with 2x AA on my GTX580.  Combination of great great engine tech + really good art design.  Even the animations are incredible on the enemies for an FPS.  Seeing them swing off the ceilings or wall run just looks so fluid.

Plays alright, but when you have graphics like this, the gameplay gets some lenience with me.  I just want to explore the sets.

I continue to alternate between Skyrim and Might and Magic Heroes VI. At the fast pace I'm playing, I should finish one of them before the start of 2013.
