Tried to play online.  Took 3 mins to "connect" to a player then had a shitty laggy battle.  Don't think I'll bother with online play since I have a wireless Wii.

Bebpo, like everyone has a wireless Wii.  This game is not officially out yet...barely anyone is playing it online.  It took forever for me to find matches, too, and they've been of varying quality.  I had to set the search parameter to worldwide to even find any matches at all!  Don't pass judgment on the online until the next few days pass and people in your surrounding area start playing.

Quote
Also still don't like the game.  I didn't really notice the camera when playing the JP version, but playing this, something about the way the camera moves up and down spastically makes it hard to follow the action.

Are you super-jumping all day or something?  That's what makes the camera move "spastically," and that's how these games have always been.  There's nothing different about it.

Quote
And playing on a classic controller the game still feels like I'm struggling against the controls 90% of the time.  Game is probably a decent fighter on a stick, but goddamn the GC or CC suck for fighting games.

Stick is obviously the most optimal way to play the game, but I'm not having any issues with the classic controller since it only uses four buttons.  Maybe it's just been a while for you and your timing is off or something.

Quote
Also all the NEW characters added that I'd like to try "frank/zero" require finishing the game multiple times.  I can't even be bothered to finish it once because fighting the cpu is zero fun whatsoever.  So that kinda kills all interest in this "new" version.

I hate unlocking shit.  HATE IT.  But eh, you have to finish the game with three Capcom characters for Frank, six for Zero, and repeat the same process on the Tatsunoko side for Tekkaman Blade and Joe.  Once you have all four of those characters, beat it with them (and if you used Frank and Blade towards getting Zero and Joe, I believe that counts as part of the process) and you get Yatterman #2.  It's a little tedious, but the keywords are "a little."  It's pretty easy to beat the game and you can always make it go faster by putting the handicap levels and super meter levels up and the turning the difficulty down, making it cakewalk.  Or just wait a couple of days and see if someone puts up a save file to download.

The good thing about beating TvC's arcade mode is that you only need to finish the last boss with the character whose ending you want, so in other words, you could just have a team of Ryu and whoever, easily beat the shit out of the last boss by spamming fireballs and super fireballs, and then switch to your other character to get the last hit in, and it counts towards clearing the game with a new character.

Quote
Same old game that I never cared for much before.

Pass.

If you didn't care for it before, what makes you think you would have liked it now?   :lol

The orb boss is some bullshit too, haha.

He's pretty easy and just has a few nasty moves in each form that you can get the basics of avoiding pretty fast.  You can obliterate him with any projectile users, but it can be trickier for those without them.  If you just want to unlock shit, just stick with Ryu, Saki, Frank, Megaman, etc. and blast the shit out of him. Yami is far easier to beat than say, Seth in SF4.

Don't think I'll bother with online play since I have a wireless Wii.
As if there's any other type? ???

You can get a wired adaptor for the Wii.  The thing is, it might improve your connection quality, but what about your opponent's?   :lol  Everyone is going to play it wirelessly.  Nobody knows how online play is going to be on the average yet since there's like five people playing online at a given time right now.  I've seen reports of it being awesome and others saying it's god-awful.  Nobody has any idea how far or how close everyone else is.

EDIT: I just had a couple of perfect matches.  No noticeable lag whatsoever...so it can happen.

I dunno, your enthusiasm made me think maybe the changes were really drastic like going from MvC1 -> MvC2 or something.  So I thought maybe I'd finally like it.  Also thought the new characters might make me like it more since Zero/Frank are cool.  One of the main problems I have with TvC is I hate everyone in the roster  :lol  Even characters I enjoy playing as in other games like Ryu or Alex or Morrigan aren't as fun to play here.  I love Onimusha but the Onimusha guy (while being good) is slow and not fun to use.  I love Megaman but megaman feels awful.  The giant characters seem cool until you play as them and it's like playing as the Sentinel except less agile.  I dunno, I really don't like how anyone in the roster feels.  I think I just hate the physics and controls.

I was the biggest MvC2 in my college for like 1.5 years straight.  I'd play all the local competition, read up on the message boards all night to keep up with the latest high level strategies/combos, I got good with almost every character in the roster and had a handful of competitive teams I'd use.  So I love this style of gameplay.  But for a lot of reasons TvC doesn't click with me at all.  I'd rather play SFIV any second of the year and you know that I'm not even that big on SFIV.  At least SFIV feels right in the physics and controls and every character is fun to use.

They fixed a bunch of dumb glitches, balanced the game out more, and added new characters/stages/music/online.  I like it more than the original version, sure, but did you really think an upgrade like UAS would be that drastic?

BTW, MvC to MvC2 was more like a downgrade.   ;)

Hating the characters I can see, but hating the physics/controls as a Marvel fan?   :lol  I don't get it.  I think you'd really dig Zero.  He sounds like he's what you want.

This game has a ton of fun characters too.  :P  SF4 is the best no doubt, but this is a fun little diversion.  I am glad they essentially dumped the entire previous Vs. cast and started over, with only a couple of returnees (and even they feel different).  I never use Ryu in SF, but I love him in TvC.   Try more of the Tatsunoko side out.

Yeah tVC isnt really fun with just a wiimote. I aint buying an add-on just to have good controls...

Always a "flaw" with fighters on most systems and their standard controllers.  I don't blame you; didn't think this would be a game you'd even care about anyway.

Unlocked all the characters in TvC Ultimate All-Stars.  So just to confirm, the fastest way to do it is to beat the game 16 times; finish it eight times with different Capcom characters (including Frank and Zero when you unlock them) and eight times with Tatsunoko characters (including Tekkaman Blade and Joe The Condor when you unlock them) and you will get the last character, Yatterman-2.

I'm still working on getting the Lost Planet shooter.  I think you have to play the hidden credits mini game to get it.  When you beat the game and the credits roll, don't hit start to skip and hit an attack button instead, and you'll trigger a mini game with Doronjo and crew riding a bicycle.  You have to jump over gaps between hills and you can jump to collect the staff's names.  Occasionally you'll see gold letters and I think getting all of them (spelling out "thank you for") unlocks it.  It's tougher than it seems though.  Roll also has a different version that plays a new version of her theme music and you play as her flying on her broom.

All five new characters are pretty damn cool and have crazy level 3 super attacks.  Tekkaman Blade is totally   :o 8) with most of his attacks, but he moves kinda weird.  He dashes like Morrigan (so he flies upwards), but actually has a start-up delay on his dashing.  Some of his special moves basically act as dash attacks to make up for it.

The top-ranked player right now is named "NOOB."  This guy uses Gold Lightan (think of enormous Mecha Zangief with better armor) and will rage quit if he is going to lose.  I was reading that people are clueless as to how to deal with Lightan, and they were right...I did some online matches and just destroyed a couple of people with 360s.  I think he has a major advantage in laggy matches.

I'm beginning to notice the character development flaws in this game. For the exception of Nolan (axe guy), none of the pre-classed characters I've started out with are able to hold their own in a fight. None of them. This problem forces them to rely on the classed members to do most of the grunt work, which in turn jeopardizes the growth of the weaker characters.

Outside of getting cheap kills from injured enemies, these characters can't do a damn thing. If I put them too close to the action, it's good night. At least with Ike's crew in PoR, I could count on the members to handle themselves in a one on one confrontation with comparable foe.

Now playing Mass Effect 2 and Fatal Frame 4. Mass Effect 2 will make FFXIII obsolete, I'm afraid.

try the best you can to endure the loli and her thief team, you will get better teams later on so right now it's just a matter of trial and error and saving after every turn.

There's a fix for that, swaggaz or so I read.

yeah, I've heard of three fixes so far that I'll try out:

one involves clicking your desktop as it launches to force DX9 mode, another involves downloading a cheat program that apparently contains a virus, and the last is some unofficial solution a guy made that has mixed results.

Hey Lyte; is TvC worth a purchase?. You've probably already answered this already, sorry for the repeat question.

TL;DR version is yes if you like the Capcom Marvel Vs. games, but note that nobody is gonna have a real handle on how the online play holds up until tomorrow.

EDIT: All the matches I have played today have been lag free so far!

EDIT 2: Except for the guy I just played against...and I think it was intentional.  The first two matches were great, then after killed him Lightan, he picks Lightan too, only the lag goes off the charts and he just does the ground stomp move which is impossible to avoid with this much lag.  What a pussy.

Yeah.  Would have had more players and better online too!   :lol  Most of the people I have been playing appear to be from Europe or Asia, so it's good to see that the lag is minimal with good connections.

Anyone think there are too many games at this point in the gen?  Like you hear about devs closing and publishers making less games because of a bad economy but it feels like there's way too many new games these days.

Kinda in the burnt out mode again.  Stared at my wii when I got home from classes and couldn't turn it on.

It's also like I used to have time to school, to game, to social party.  But now I don't even have time to finish many games or social.  I finish maybe 2 games a month these days.  I think I blame it a little on playing only rpgs since like September.  For every 50 hour rpg I finish I could have caught up on five 10 hour games!  >_<  Why are rpgs so gooooooood though :(

I'm just getting into games after about a year and a half hiatus (except strolling through Musou titles)

Gaming these days just doesn't compare to the halcyon days of the Dreamcast where I got excited for games to come out or in the case of the launch, lost sleep a couple nights before its launch.  I like playing games since the Dreamcast's end but it has never been the same.  I've had a lot of fun recently with Borderlands but I'm at the point where nothing in gaming really excites me.

Fortunately there's Gamefly.  Otherwise, I'd still be on my hiatus, which will basically just turn into me giving up on games.

Can't even be bothered to fire up an emulator.

What's HoN?

Heroes of Newerth.  It is a DotA clone which is a RTS/RPG hybrid based off a Warcraft 3 mod.  It is pretty fun, but the community is made up of a bunch of l33t losers who call you a cigarillo if you aren't pwnin' scrubs.  I have been playing alot of League of Legends, its casual, microtransaction based sister.  HoN is much deeper and I want to try to learn it, but nearly everybody is a jerk so it is very offputting, whereas people are much more pleasant in League of Legends.

Edit:  In fighting game terms, League of Legends is TvC and Heroes of Newerth is Street Fighter 4. :P

FUCKING HELL YEAH

finally cracked a nutbusting Peggle achievement.

Peoples Ovation - win a 4 player peg party by 100,000 pts or more

I tried for like 8 hours to get this shit legit, but you either need to be really lucky, or play against people that suck. Its a pain to boost also cos you need 4 peeps.

But today I just got really lucky and got good shot after good shot, then I landed in the 50k bucket in fever then BOOM achievement unlocked.

Just got the Peggle Nights expansion so I will be playing a lot of Peggle I think. Might even get the full 250Gs. I already got the hardest achievement (100% all 55 stages)

Grinding in DQ7, fighting metaru-suraimu over in Krage. Will probably be finished soon, within the next few weeks. Then I'll give Mass Effect a shot - even though I hate Bioware, sci-fi is cool and I really like what I've heard of the game's soundtrack (music is very important to me in a game, more than gfx, I think)

Still playing more Arkham Asylum.  I'm about halfway through the game if the FAQs mean anything.

I'm still loving the game.  I'm getting the hang of finding ways to clear a room of half a dozen armed guards.  Not that it was that difficult anyway but the ability to grab an enemy and let them hang off of a gargoyle is pretty neat.

I hope to get it wrapped up by the end of next weekend and continue w/ Borderlands.

For DQ4 you have to do the epilogue.  It's where they explain the bad guy's motivations and flesh his character out.  Then the ending will be more satisfying.  The boss was a bitch though, indeed.

I barely remember the plot of DQ4, but I do remember the epilogue just being lots of boring grinding.

I don't remember the epilogue having any battles ^^;  I thought it was just optional story scenes you could see if you went to the right area that explained the villain's story.  Then again, yeah, it's been a while.

- Finished DQ4, shit ending and final boss
- Finished Professor Layton 2, shit twist/resolution
- 200'd Vandal Hearts, ok
- 1000'd Ninja Gaiden 2, shit

Is Vandal Hearts worth buying? How long did it wind up being?

It's like, casual. Know what you are getting into before you buy it.

I'm talking about the DS version too! :lol

I remember going to a town and then to a farm field or something and activating a trigger than opened a hidden entrance and then watching flashback memories.
You're probably talking about an epilogue bonus dungeon which I'm sure there was but I doubt I did it.

Tried replaying missions in Gay Tony for percentage improvement, since there are 'cheevs for all missions past 80% and another for 100%.

I finally got an early mission to 100%, then played "Chinese Takeout" several times: once to find out what the target performances are, four or five more times to try for them. I biffed 100% headshots by some shithead ducking at the wrong time so I hit him once in the shoulder. BYE! I missed the speed run by getting 5:44 on a 5:20 target, while waiting for Tony to slowly scamper his titular Gay ass to the car. So... yeah. Not going to go for even the 80% on all missions. Time to move on.

Prototype is likely next on the list. You guys bashed it a lot, so I was really apprehensive at first. But as the only guy here who played the hell out of the borderline-kinda-good movie licensed Sega HULK game, I can say this is a very similar game but doesn't make the same mistakes HULK did. When I played, it was very familiar, except the sense of danger and challenge. Maybe once I get powered up that will go away, but the mission where your hoodie-boy gets his claws was really challenging. I died several times while trying to figure out how to take out the Zuul-dog looking beasts.

Just use cheatcodes when doing the goals beforehand (not during). Explosive Shotgun makes for easy headshots. Also use the auto-aim.

Picked up a LAN adaptor for the Wii. TvC's online runs much, much smoother now.

Spent the rest of the Saudi PSN card and picked up Critter Crunch. Fun little puzzle game.

Also snagged Braid for $7.50 off the NA Playstation Store. Seems really full of itself, but kinda fun.

Braid is a good game.  Pretentious?  Sure.  But the gameplay is there.

More rpgs need real-time difficulty selector like Tales games.  It's nice being able to play on like HARD#2 and then when you get to an impossible boss instead of going $^#^$@%@%@# you just retry and drop the difficulty down until it's challenging but possible.  Then ratchet it back up depending on the enemy strength / how long you're willing to let battles last.

I think I'm at the final dungeon in Graces now.  Gonna run around the world and do some optional stuff and then finish it out this weekend.  Still really fun.  Tales games might not have great plots but they are constantly fun games unless they are a disgrace like that ToS2 game by F-rank devs.

Why bother playing on Hard if you're gonna drop to Normal anyway?

I'm playing on hard2!
Graces goes easy/normal/hard/hard#2

Who cares if out of a 40 hour game on hard#2 you drop down to hard or normal for an hour of the game.
Would you rather spend the other 39 hours+ hours keeping the difficulty on normal and being bored in enemy encounters?

The whole point of real-time adjustable difficulty is that you can make the game fun for YOU.  If enemies are too easy in a dungeon, bump the difficulty up.  If too hard, bump it down.  You pick the level of challenge that is fun and difficult.

In Vesperia I played on normal for the first half of the game, was getting bored and then bumped it to hard and had fun for the 2nd half.  If I'd been stuck on normal the game would have been zzz.

Sorry you hate challenge? Bosses are supposed to be hard. I see videos of people beating Kratos on Abyss difficulty or whatever.
