Perfect Dark

This is a good idea. I could wait for this. When is it coming out again?

Castlevania:SOTN, SSF2THDR, MVC2, Ikaruga, Trigger Heart Excelica, Omega 5, Puzzle Fighter...and a ton more.  I can't imagine not having XBL games and being forced to choose between them at this point..so many damn games!

Half of those are on my must-buy list, I'm just trying to prioritize. What's the most bang for my buck right now? I think PD wins that argument.

I just looked at the XBLA page for Perfect Dark. Why is it that the in-game models of Joanna Dark always look at least ten times worse than the renders we get in official art? Like wtf.

Perfect Dark is about 3 weeks away, I think.    SOTN is really the biggest bang for your buck, I think.  Shadow Complex is probably the runner up to that.

Duke Nukem 3D is 400 points this week.

I can wait for PD. I've beaten SOTN like three times, Shadow Complex looks interesting and if the demo is good I might bite. DN3D I bought off GOG during the holiday sale.

Reading demi's post actually made me want to play some Trials. I just did a quick run through the post-patch endurance run and WOW they made it so much easier. The only track I had more than 1 fault on was Underground; I can definitely get this Marathon achievement. The physics are definitely fair and consistent though, just remember your acceleration and body position (forward or back) matters a lot.

And like Bebpo said, you can fail on missions. The only track I failed though was Inferno 2, but I completed it eventually. I love me some Trials.

On a side note... made it to the final 20% of the final boss's life bar in Mushi Futari and got a game over. 1CC evades me once again :gloomy

Well, it must be me. I was tryin that Groundhog achievement. Why does every movement you do raise your front wheel and make you backflip? That's some funky ass gravity. I had to turn it off from the constant crashes from landing on the back wheel causing me to flip backwards.

I think you can still get all the achievements on super easy mode. :teehee

nope, you have to hack all terminals on hard for one, and there is the legendary "Elite Commando" achievement which requires you to beat the game on Super Commando for a 5G achievement. Only demi and myself have it here. And of course the challenge rooms, good luck beating room 60

You're probably using one of the lightweight bikes and that makes it a lot easier to flip back when you accelerate quickly. I use the Scorpion 250cc most of the time so that's all I'm really accustomed to. It takes a little while to get used to, but soon you'll have it down. Most of the time when I land on a flat surface after a big drop I try not to hold the acceleration, as that's usually a recipe for disaster.

Doesn't matter when it's that cheap!  Plus CS isn't coming out until July.  I think you might be in for quite a beating if you are planning on playing online though.

MW2 is crazy.  On one hand I really like the amount of $$$$ put into the SP campaign.  There is soooo much going on at any time with the scripting.  Dudes running, paper flying, stuff blowing up, planes, tanks, etc....the animation is pretty good!  OTOH, I can't play this game because it's too chaotic.  There's dudes EVERYWHERE in every direction and the game moves at the pace of a blockbuster summer movie on ADD.  It's sorta fun but it's just information overload and I can't handle it.  I think I liked CoD1/2 better when it was just CRAWL AROUND and SNIPE DUDES.  Much more relaxing pace.  Pick off people and then move ahead.  This is just omgomg ahhhh omgomg ahhhh.

I did think the Virginia stuff was neat and gave a better "WAR IN AMERICA" feeling than Resistance 2 tried to do.  It's kind of a cool setting you don't see often to play a realistic FPS in USA, so I appreciate the attempt to stay fresh.  Running across rooftops in Brazil was pretty cool too.  Snow level at the start was terrrrrrible though.

Suikoden Tierkreis for only €15. Couldn't pass on that.

Played it for one hour yesterday. It's okay, I guess. Not regretting my impulse purchase, so far.

Went back to GTA Chinatown Wars (DS) and am still just perplexed at how much stuff they put in that game. There's so much neat crap to do in Liberty City that it improves my memory of GTA IV if that makes any sense. The shooting's pretty much a joke, more of a joke than GTA3. The driving's the opposite of GTA IV's sloppy, swimmy physics. The auto-correct to keep you in a lane with only minor adjustments makes things possibly too easy, though I still manage to destroy plenty of cars from banging them around. The touch screen implementation is sweet; there are a lot of contextual mini-games which are integrated thematically very well.

I'm tempted to pick up the PSP version just to see how they deal with the minigames and controls; did they go more toward the "Stories" series of controls for cars, or keep it forgiving? I'm also reading that they went to a QTE model for the minigames, which isn't really an improvement in my book...

I dunno, the game is like crack to me and I'd never done a proper speedrun for it before. Probably wouldn't have even done it if I hadn't left my 360 at a friend's house last week and popped on ZSNES out of boredom

Driving is very forgiving in the PSP version, you straighten out automatically. I think there is more traffic in the PSP version judging from the videos I've seen, but I don't have any problems getting around.

The minigame thing sounds obnoxious but when you're playing the game you don't run into them very often and it's usually just moving the analog nub in a circle or what not.

Dawn of Discovery

(Image removed from quote.)

This is an awesome console-ized version of Anno 1404 that was custom tailored to the Wii's strengths. Meaning, cartoonish visuals and a streamlined interface that's built entirely around the Wii remote's IR pointer mechanism. I'm sure this will turn away most of you (especially those who played the real deal on the PC) but I found the game to be a very pleasant and easy going Sim City inspired romp. It's a little more focused on the economics and the extensive singleplayer functions as a highly detailed and intuitive tutorial for the free play scenario.

Here are a few reviews:
IGN - 8/10
Gamespot - 8/10
Eurogamer - 7/10

The best part is that it was only $15 (free shipping) from Newegg.com.

awesome cover art

Put in some time on Sacred 2 on the 360 this evening.

Its interesting and by interesting I mean I probably should really be playing this on a PC but there is no way I'm going to pay full price to play it, so its either 360 for now or wait until it eventually comes down in price.

There is no way around it. It's janky on a console control wise which is expected. But for how complex it is, I find it surprisingly playable on the console. It just takes a damn good while to get use to it. They sort of do some smart stuff like where you hit a button and you create a large circle perimeter around yourself and you pick up everything in that radius. And then you can sort of customize in the menu options whether you pick up everything or you're slightly more selective. Dont get me wrong its still mostly a pain in the ass compared to a PC, but I could get use to it.

The gameplay is weird but for whatever reason I personally like their take on a loot game because its pretty different feeling than other loot games which all model Diablo. I mean at its core this is definitely a loot game but the way they handle a lot of stuff is pretty different. The story is shit and the voice acting is shit just like the first one. It doesn't look so great and the performance is barely adequate but for some reason I find myself compelled to play it. I only wish I was playing with other people because since the story and quests are so completely throwaway, another person would alleviate some of the bordeom that brings to the table.

I mean on the PC. It's still full price on the PC which is why I won't buy it on that platform which is sort of the natural platform I would prefer to play it on.

But I'm not paying $50 bucks for that pleasure though which is why I'm doing a gamefly on it for the 360.

250'd Trials HD. Played some again today and finished up the Marathon achievement. There's really only 4 notable tracks to practice: Jolly Jumper, Under Ground, Groundhog Returns, and Mother of all Jumps (one tricky part here with the descending platforms). The rest of the tracks are easy to 0 fault. Still a fairly challenging achievement though, as you have to do all 20 tracks in a row perfectly. Easy to make stupid mistakes...

Link's Awakening is one of the supposedly "enhanced" games, not sure what that means.  Sucks that it only plays black cart GBC games. I wanna play the Oracle games as well.

Have you tried Metroid 2 on it?  It says the game has its own special palette.

Links Awakening DX supports the GBC and allows access to a special dungeon only if played on a GBC, because its a color-based dungeon, by itself, the SGB isnt a GBC so you dont get access to the dungeon

My only problem with the gameboy player is that you can't do real full screen and unless you have a third party controller like that Hori SNES shaped one, you have to use that stock gamecube controller.

I'm kicking myself for not keeping my Hori gameboy controllers.  They were freely available for $19.99 for the longest time.  Now they're fucking crazy expensive.  Same goes for the PS2 saturn pads  :'(

I thought they nailed the controls.  It's a little complex, which is to be expected, but I got used to it fast.

My biggest problem with the game is how fucking huge it is.  I've put in about 30 hours and probably have 1/5 of the map covered.

It's definitely not bad for a full on loot game on a console control wise. I mean something like Borderlands is far simpler in comparison to all the variables they have to deal with here.

And yeah the original was pretty long too. Plus with their travel system you can't just freely warp around like in most loot games. You have to do a lot of exploring on foot or mount which is also kind of different but I like it. I guess the console version isn't going to get the Ice and Blood expansion pack either which is a bit of a bummer.

Tried playing L4D2 on XBL but the mental retardation was too high to even finish one map.

^ lmao

I played like 3 hours of Saints Row 2 multiplayer last night  :-\

75% of the time its crap, but man is it awesome once you get a good game of Strong Arm going! Gangsta Brawl can be hilarious if youre not playing to win, whacking dudes with the bat is classic

Don't worry, it is.  :lol

Btw, your overall score is higher than mine even though I beat the game. :(

I've already started going back trying to get good scores and collecting cakes. But yeah, I try to be as high as possible on leaderboards.  :-[

I want 200 but I need a co-op bud to finish it with. I'm literally like 5 levels away (plus cakes for those levels)

Still playing Suikoden Tierkreis, kinda. I'm getting tired of this game. Can't believe I spent €15 on this. Will probably never finish.

I also downloaded a new episode of Magic Orbz on PSN. It's still pretty fun. I love arkanoid games.
