So I guess I have found the genre I am awesome at? Tile based srpgs.
Everyone kept saying Devil Survivor is really hard for the first 3 days and then gets easy. I just finished Day 3 and the only time I've died was the first boss in the game day 1 because I hadn't started skill cracking, so I did that and went back and kicked his ass. I don't get what was supposed to be so hard about this game. It's just as easy as most megaten games these days. Hit the weaknesses or hit hard physically, do all party attacks, focus on the leader in a pinch. And the added srpg elements are pretty simple too: bring a +7 move demon to start out with and switch him when you've gotten where you want to be on the map in a turn or two; heal before/after attacks, use long range attacks when possible. I dunno, it all seems pretty straightforward and the demon auction + demon search means you can get yourself a badass team of demons at anytime in a few mins. I mean you want hard megaten you talk about Uroborous 2nd form in SJ, this stuff is no problem compared to that.
And then in the Tactics Ogre thread on gaf, everyone talks up the difficulty but uhh, it was one of my first srpgs and I never thought it was particularly frustratingly hard or anything. I remember having a good ole' time playing through it.
But then I found Valkyria Chronicles to be incredibly hard and frustrating and 1000x more difficult than devil survivor, yet everyone says VC is pretty easy.
So yeah, I've discovered I am aligned with tile based srpgs and anything other type of srpg breaks my brain.
