I think I ruined Sons of Anarchy for my husband.  :( He watched the first episode on Netflix yesterday and he caught me up on it today so we could start watching it. We always use stupid nicknames for people when we're describing movies, TV shows, even work stories. He explains Ron Perlman's character and I go, "Right, the Harry and the Hendersons motherfucker." God damn, he lost his shit and every time he comes on screen, he busts out laughing.

So far it's enjoyable though. Lots of familiar faces.

It's a really good show.  Even its meh season (3) is pretty damn enjoyable.

I watched the first episode of American Horror Story last night.  Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.  Please tell me it stays this good.  The mindfuckery is on par with Lost.

American Horror Story slows down but it almost has to.  It remains interesting if not logical or consistent.  A lot of critisim I read online from people was "horror needs to be slow blah blah blah."  Everyone here knows that I love slow burn psychological horror best of all, but it's not the only way to do Horror.  This is a fun and insane Gothic.  Ignore logic and consistences and just focus on the sensation of the now while you watch it.  When you think about it, the story will fall apart and motivations become...murky at best, but I loved every batshit minute of it.

And I think I'm done with House of Lies.  I kept waiting for it to be something more than "Entourage for 30somethings" but it seems content to just wallow in shallow bullshit.  It's a waste of eveyone's talents which makes the scenes with Kristen Bell and her disintegrating relationship just that much more frustrating.

I watched an episode of Archer last night for the first time, it's pretty shit. And obviously aimed at anime fanboys as the general execution of the animation is about that standard, that is to say poor to disabled. Not that funny either, so sorry guys.

Oh, also started watching Terriers, which seems to be totally excellent.

That's what I'm hoping for.  I loved how out there it was.  It was bouncing off the walls and throwing so much in your face.  I loved it.  It was one of the best tv shows I've seen in a while especially from the mystery/horror genre.

Been watching Home Movies and enjoying it a lot. Only watched it sporadically during its original run. Funny enough though I don't like bob's burgers at all. Show isn't charming or funny in the same way for me.

Also please end the misery of the American Office. That show is turning into a shitty soap opera. And Steve Carell leaving has also dropped the funny from the show.

Other people who I tend to agree with really like it so maybe I'm just missing something or watched the wrong episodes but I've tried to watch it and always end up bored. And I say that as someone who loves the pacing of Home Movies which moves at snail speed during an episode. I think maybe the premise turns me off where as I loved the premise of Home movies and found it relatable .

I'll give it another shot at some point.

Archer didn't go anywhere, fool.

I could see how not everyone likes the show.  To me, it reminds me of the golden age Adult Swim programming*.  I guess if you don't like that, Archer isn't for you.  I like it though because I was a pretty big fan of Sealab and ATHF.

You answered your own question. She is nearly as bad in the comic. She is always pissed off at everything and makes bad decisions. She's in denial about the world they're in, and always flying off the handle at Rick. Part of me wished that she and Shane would form their own little club. And in a way, they do.

I am enjoying each episode more than the previous one. The first episode was the weakest, for cramming in so many characters and plot threads. Each subsequent episode, I feel like I understand more about what's happening. Also, I am surprised that the kid from Iron Eagle grew up to be such a good actor.

Pretty much. I heard the second season is way better in part because more "big" things happen, but the characters are still the same. None of them are interesting outside of Capone

Most "great" shows have at least one fascinating character. Tony Soprano, Don Draper, Walter White, Omar, Vic Mackey...what does Boardwalk have? A boring, ugly gangster/politician, a depressing wannabe gangster...that's about it

I've only just finished S1 of this as well. S2 is being purchased on The Internet Store, since we forgot to set the DVR for it.

Matthew and Mary clearly get along, once the pressure was off them. At his worst, Matthew is guilty of being a little inconsiderate via his cluelessness. At Mary's best, she's clever, but her inherent tendency to become selfish and spiteful is not going to serve any marriage. S1 spoiler:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
I understand that she wanted to know her own heart before committing to Matthew, that she wanted to know it would be a marriage of love. She was committed to marrying him, but didn't want to have her own doubts poison what she saw as her only hope for a love-based marriage. Even so, she should not have made Matthew wait longer than she'd promised for her response, she should not have engaged her sister, Edith, in that petty game for the suitor.

I suppose my issue was with how the show handles pacing.  Two episodes pass and we're already like 9 months into Matthew's stay at Downton.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
By the time he proposes, it just feels like they share only three playful/romantic moments (if you even want to go THAT far), and they don't even show his proposal, AFAIR.  They could've kept that scene of them kissing, but have it resolve in "we have feelings for each other and we're going to see what happens."  But I suppose I don't really understand of civility and chivalry worked back then.
