House of Cards is really quite good so far, I've finished the first 4 episodes. Are they probably going to make one season a year?

Two seasons were purchased, I'm guessing more are likely. Netflix paid $100m for the show and it's getting good reviews and buzz - I doubt it will disappear anytime soon; I saw an article about how folks in congress love it, and Spacey was allowed to attend closed congressional republican meetings plus talk to Whips from both parties while preparing for the role.

Didn't like the pilot much but I'll give the rest a shot.

I wrapped up King of the Hill.  What a great show.  The Wikipedia section about ratings best describes how I feel about the seasons: started off fantastically, lulled for a couple seasons (seasons 8-9), and then improved from there.  However even the worst King of the Hill episode is better than the best post cancellation Family Guy episode.  Go watch it in its entirety.

House of Cards is pretty good as well.

And the last two episodes of Justified redeemed itself from the fighter side story that got way too much attention earlier in the season.

Yep.  King of the Hill is damn consistent.  Loved that show.

I watched episode 1 of Black Mirror season 2 last night.  Oh snap.  Show is still awesome.  Love it!

House of Cards builds from its pilot episode, but it never really becomes more than a B show, overall. Episode 10 aside, that was a probably a B+/A-.

I'm at like episode 8 or 9 now in House of Cards. Yeah my initial take for me was on point. It's a decent enough show but not a great show. Which is fine. Not everything is going to be at that highest level. It's good enough to watch. But its mainly an acting exhibition for Kevin Spacey which is the main reason to tune in. It's a very cynical and dark show which I normally like although the way its cynical, is a little forced.

I'm totally on board with this show. Gonna get caught up this weekend. Does it seem like there's gonna be any kind of conclusion after Episode 6, or is it just gonna be a cliffhanger and hope for Season 2?

The new Black Mirror was kind of a creepy idea. I'm glad that it's continuing the first season's trend of chilling stories from an alternate future. The first half of this episode was eerily creepy as it paints a very probable version of the somewhat near future.

House of Cards doesn't ever shed its flaws. It's an overrated B-tier show that lacks any compelling hook.

Also, fuck GAF and fuck the thread there for continually telling me the show gets better. "Wait until Epsiode...." for House of Cards is pretty much "Wait till Spaceworld".

Haven't watched U.S. House of Cards yet, but from my perspective (or hope?) it's getting a lot of the same kind of opinion that Boss did, only with far far more attention. You bought in with Grammer as Kane and then bought into the entire series from there or just couldn't get involved.

The hook is Spacey. Either you're into the show from Episode 1, Scene 1, Minute 1, or you aren't. I'm pretty happy to be in the former category.

Anyway, a B-Tier show is something like Criminal Minds or Big Bang Theory. House of Cards is at least a B+, but probably an A-.

no those are below B-tier

B tier is like Supernatural or Raising Hope. An A tier show you don't want to skip. House of Cards doesn't have much going for it beyond the production value and star power. You can skip entire stretches of the show and not really miss much.

I agree that it's a good point of comparison.  House of Cards compares favorably, however, because the script writing and secondary characters don't detract from Spacey's performance.  Nearly everything on House of Cards is done with competence, even when it isn't so thrilling.

Overall though, I think the medium in which House of Cards is being delivered is helping smooth over some of its flaws.  I don't think the show is compelling to the point where you would make sure to tune in every week.  Since it's all available up front, you can afford to be less critical and go along with the ride.

Spacey is most definitely the hook. You watch to watch him do stuff. He's the show.

I think the supporting cast is pretty great though. Claire, Zoey Barnes, and Peter Russo all have pretty interesting and well-done character arcs, IMO.

They do a good job building the supporting cast but let's be honest, if Spacey was removed from the equation the show would not be worth watching.

I'd really like to watch House of Cards, but am slightly put off by the fact of Spacey being gay. Is it slightly camp when he talks to the camera? The only convincing thing he did was eat a banana, and yeah he was ok in The Usual Suspects and the film when Jack Nicholson was a misanthropic writer.

We will find out what was going on with Caesar and his penis (most likely genital warts) in episode 4, and also I think he's fantastic.

As for his facial hair, that's basically addressed in episode 2. Crassus is keeping him that way because he's not fit to be a proper Roman yet.

I think they will cut the talking to the camera stuff out of HoC's second season. It doesn't add much and I think it will remind too many people of American Beauty. Maybe they want that considering the alike tones, but it was oft-putting for me.

I don't remember Crassus telling Caesar that, would be pretty weird to tell a member of such an important family that.

Somebody on GAF speculated that the blood ritual is to drain blood from that area so that sexual impulse is inhibited allowing a man to completely dedicate his mind to the fighting.

Crassus straight up told him he had spent too long away from Rome. That's a big reason why he named Tiberius his voice and command instead of Caesar, who is irrational and wild. Thus, the facial hair stays.

I wish they'd spin off Daryl and Merle into their own walking dead show. They could travel the country, and Merle could try to rob the minorities they help, and Daryl could press his crossbow against Merle's head while teaching him a life lesson in every episode.

"Put down the Doritos, Merle."
"Boy you better get that thing away from my head. We helped 'em, now it's time to help ourselves to whatever they got in this van."
"It ain't right taking people's food. They got kids."
"It's only fair, little brother. Injuns don't like Doritos, nohow."
"You don't know that. Put 'em down."
"Is this supposed to be one of them - whaddyacallems? Where, this is kinda like we're the white settlers who acted all friendly with the Native Americans, but really we're just pretending to help so we can steal their land?"
"Metaphor? Sure."
"And the Doritos are the land?"
"Yeah."
"Awww..."

^such genius.

Just finished House of Cards anyhow, that show is so above B-tier. It's at least as good as something like Breaking Bad. Spacey is amazing and that may have just made some people assume every character with less screentime just wasn't that important, but actually every other character is very interesting, smart, and even well-acted. Frank Underwood is just the glue that brings them all together.

Granted, some parts of it are a bit farfetched but no more than any other show on TV. There's also nothing else like it in the US as far as I know.

Maybe I'm just a little bit juvenile, but I would really like it if they grabbed one of the directors from Justified or Breaking Bad to get some crazy stylish cinematography going on. At least this show lets you work in ass and tits into the shot.

I was guessing the same thing.  And I thought I had it at the start of the reveal.  Still loved it though.  It's definitely one that lingers, especially with the credit clips.  Something like Fifteen Million Credits would be awesome.  The tech future stuff they've got going on has been pretty reserved compared to Eps 2 and 3 of Season One.  S1 E03 is my favorite by far though.

Season 3 of Fringe is kind of a drag. The show's appeal is its cast, but the current plot makes it so half the episodes don't feature the show's best characters.
