As a family who bred dogs for a while, I find the GAF consensus to be irksome. I get the point but in the typical GAFtard black-white fashion, anyone who doesn't get a dog from a shelter is a piece of shit who probably eats babies in their spare time and anyone who breeds dogs only cares about the money!
That thread was infuriating, like most of GAF. It's sick because now there is a market for this, where the market should be for healthy, happy animals. There was this shit makeshift pet store that set up in our mall for awhile and called themselves "Rescue a Pet" or some shit, and they sold dogs, lied about their age and health, and behavioral issues, all to make a quick buck because of everybody jumping on the rescue bandwagon. Most people can't handle minor problems with a pet, which is one reason the shelters are so overrun in the first place.
Maybe it's just different here because we have so many no-kill reputable rescue groups, so the Humane Society and Animal Control are really the only groups that euthanize. But the rescue groups scour the HS/AC websites, picking up most of the pure bred dogs and dogs that are adoptable. We had to go to a Humane Society facility once to look for a friend's dog (who was luckily at the neighbor's) and there was maybe one dog there out of hundreds that even seemed adoptable. They were all vicious or feral or just were... off. We have two big facilities that I know of that take all kinds of animals and never kill them, so if people have to give up their pet, they'll probably go there.
