There are some games where I think watching a playthrough on youtube is probably better than me actually playing the game.

Heavy Rain would be an example of that. I legit feel like I experience that game just by watching a playthrough. I feel the same about Deadly Premonitions. Because neither game is very good on the mechanics side but have interesting or funny stories.

I'm starting to feel that way about certain jrpg franchises also.

Heavy Rain sucks as a youtube movie.

The whole fun of the game is that it's got a billion branching paths and you make all these choices that affect the story so it becomes your personal story.  Watching some linear video of someone else's playthrough kind of misses the point.

A billion? really now?

They were so few and almost all of them were trivial save for the couple of ones that decide the ending.

Typical sfaggeration.  :lol

I had fun with Heavy Rain but you're right about most of the branching being trivial, especially since the killer and his actions never change.  I wish they had done a dynamic plot like the Blade Runner game which changes the killer, depending on the player's choices.  In Blade Runner, you are also allowed to do different things to the killer once you discovered his or her identity.  That would have given Heavy Rain players a lot more to talk about and added plenty of replay value to the game.

I didn't give a crap about it being "my personal story" nor do I give a shit about doing lots of quicktime events. I watched it on youtube and got just as much enjoyment as I wanted out of it. The only reason to like that game is the story. I was fine with watching a specific version of the story there.

Haha. I played Romancing SaGa for ps2 for like 5 hours. What a turd. Worst rpg I played on ps2 by far, even worse than Suikoden IV and Xenosaga II.

Did some chapter with dinosaurs in a cave, at the beginning of the game, and the dinosaurs took sooo longggggggg to kill. Then did some chapter with some ice dungeon and shit.

Bored the crap out of me.

i tried the boss again and he didn't use his spam-mastic move instead he attacked twice my member with the biggest DF rating and then used sleep (which didn't hit) so i guess luck plays a huge role during these boss fight

same! since everybody talked like it was a matter of "getting it" i tried playing with different character,i tried hunting for different side-quest,i tried anything but i simply couldn't get anything out of it,it was like squeezing a turnip

eh barring the horrible boss it hasn't been bad so far,it really feels like an old game but without all the horrible slowness and clunkiness that usualy comes paired with it,it even features visible monster on the field that you can dodge!

just to give an idea of the scenario,my next part of the quest consist into

[close]

the game works like the original in that you make a party out of 4 different kinds of character, humans gains stat at random, can use every item and are geared toward phsyical stuff, esper gains stat at random, gains skill at random (and since skills count as items,if their inventory is full they forget a skill to learn new one, tough at least you can control what they forget) and are geared toward magic, robot gains stat by equipping more stuff and don't have any equipment limit (so they can equip 4 helmet for example as long as they have the inventory space to do so) and finaly monster don't gain stat but instead morph into different monster by eating meats, the game doesn't tell you into what you morph next (i ended up morphing into a lot of crappy monster before settling to a rock monster that had a quite big DF stat) which is frustating but there is a handy book that list, all the various monster combination you have discovered

as you progress you also unlock relics, which give you more power like finding hidden treasure's or stat boost or elemental immunity, apparently there are 77 of them and the whole point of the game it's to gather them all

that stuff was all in the original, new to this version are muses,if you finish battle in a certain way you get a point reward (right now i only have the muse of speed so i get a bonus if i can finish a battle in a single turn) you then use those point to buy "threads of fate" which let you pull off team attacks, there are different kinds of threads of fate and apparently different kinds unlock different kind of event.....

....it's not clearly explained, while the "team attack" part is quite clear and nice the other implication are confusing and stupid, truly showing this is a kawazu game

This is distinguished mentally-challenged and there's stuff like this in every game that comes out in the US

pretty weak excuse-wise.

I think Mother 3 didn't come over simply because Nintendo looks at the jrpg market in the US and sees maybe 50-100k potential sales max and they go "lol, not worth it".  Which is the same reason why they didn't bring over Soma Bringer and may pass on Xenoblade and even Last Story.  Jrpg genre is a fairly niche market in the west and jrpgs are the most expensive games to localize, those two opposing factors make money-sensitive companies like Nintendo or Namco just not bother.

I don't think you read the whole article.  It's mostly about why Earthbound hasn't come to the virtual console and won't.  We can extrapolate from there why Nintendo doesn't want to bank on this franchise.

I don't especially care for Ryan, and Brad just reminds me too much of people I know irl who game. Vinny is awesome too, but every time a game comes up Jeff says exactly what I'm thinking, word for word. This was especially true during the GOTY podcasts. Also, 8.8, never forget.

From EG

Quote
Hack and slash series Ninja Gaiden is known for its brutal difficulty – but with the third game in the series developer Team Ninja plans to make the action more accessible.

"Team Ninja's aim with Ninja Gaiden 3 is twofold: to be the number one 3D action game of the time, and secondly, the main character is Ryu Hayabusa. They're the two things we're focusing on," Team Ninja boss Yosuke Hayashi told Eurogamer.

"Then, providing excitement, which is not only from the difficulty. That's just one of the elements. It's more like having excitement from fighting an exciting boss. That is what we needed."

Ninja Gaiden 3 is being developed without the aid of Tomonobu Itagaki , who quit as Team Ninja boss in 2008.

Gamers and critics have described NG3 as a reboot and an attempt by the new Team Ninja to make its own mark on the series Itagaki so loved.

"With the previous Ninja Gaidens, you were playing and you were excited, but it was more about putting the controller into the TV screen or something," Hayashi said. "That kind of excitement we were focusing on and aiming for. So that's why for you maybe it was too difficult at that time.

"That's one of the elements. We're not focusing on it, but focusing on providing excitement."

So, is Ninja Gaiden 3 easier than 1 and 2?

"Not easy," Hayashi replied, "but it will enable more people to play. More accessible. We don't plan to have Ninja Gaiden 3 only for the really good, skilled people."
