Awesome, have to try that tonight.

I've only got 3 achievements left. One of them is the harpoon gun one which is almost impossible cause of the time.

cool if you're not gonna get the game.

if you're planning on getting it, then it's just a waste of time since you have to start from scratch when you get the full game anyhow.

uhhhh, the achievements carry over to the full game...

achievements != progress

you're still going to need to get all those orbs again and level up your character from scratch and redo all the missions you clear in the demo.  It's like playing a game, deleting the save file and restarting from scratch.  You keep all the achievements earned, but the first time was a waste of time since you gotta do everything over again.

I dunno; it's possible the progress will carry over, unless the demo says "Accelerated Agent progression" or whatever the original demo did, to explain how the Agent is leveling up super fast in comparison to the normal game.

it is accelerated.

the UV shotgun + mag grenades + flocket launcher = tons of fun.

ground pound and scattering ram are also great but idk what the hell is up with the wingsuit. just doesn't seem to work very well.

I will try a second playthrough then. I'm not impressed with the dulled-down look of the world, and I forgot how painful the agents are to control before they've had a few power-ups. The demo was just kind of tiring, and made me want to boot up the first one, instead of buying Crackdown 2.

because a press buddy just gave me a download code for the full game.  rather than giving hard copy discs for review, microsoft issued him two download codes for the full game.  one for him.  one to share. downloading now :)

Well, I think it used to be standard to give press copies that could only be played on debug units anyway.

Either way, I enjoy the game.  The first one was the most fun I've had with an online game since PSO.

I really don't understand why they wouldn't let you do custom tags or icons like Halo for your teammates, and then have them onscreen at all times. It sucks trying to figure out where your boys are.

Also why not some customization for your agent, also like Halo?

it was pretty obvious from the demo that this was all a quick 'n' dirty job, even before i read the team only had eight months or so to slap it together

that said, if gamefly comes through i'll check out the full version and see if co-op makes it worth it

If you liked Crackdown, you should like Crackdown 2.  If you didn't like Crackdown, it's because you have no friends to play it with.  Crackdown was not a high production values game, but it's the most fun I've had with a co op online game this gen.  Crackdown 2 is basically more of the same... with a few new features.

Y'all have fun griping about how slapped together this game is.  I'm gonna go collect some orbs. :P

I have inverted aiming turned on, and if I want to use precision targeting I need to press down to go to the head and up to go to the feet. I don't remember it being like this in the original.

Seriously? I would welcome the move to codes. It's a great way to get around the "limited amount of review copies" issue. I asked for a copy of Alan Wake but it didn't work out, therefore I doubted that I'd get Crackdown 2, but I got the email two days ago with two downloadable codes. With no past history with the PR firm that handles Microsoft's games, if this were on disc, I probably wouldn't have a review copy.

My copy of 3D Dot Game Heroes came in a cardboard sleeve on a non-retail disc of the full game that lacked trophies. I didn't mind because I was provided a copy of the game.

Even if it's a digital copy, it's still a free game. It's basically a (non-existent) Games On Demand version of the game. The only difference between this and a retail copy is that you can't resell it, which I wouldn't do with review copies anyhow.

8/10

Quote
Above all else, this shift exemplifies a game that's been rebuilt for co-op. Try soloing the main missions in Crackdown 2 and it can seem a bit gruelling, particularly when the Godzilla-sized enemies and armour-clad militia units start to turn up. Play with friends, however, and it's a breezy delight, as you reclaim stronghold areas from the Cell by clearing tactical landing zones of enemy resistance, or battle the Freaks by restarting a network of rooftop Absorption units before taking the fight into underground raid areas where beacons tear the mutants to shreds with bursts of pure daylight.

Godzilla sized enemies?

As a completionist, I don't like that I NEED a co-op partner to get some orbs. This game is going to take a while to finish, especially with my schedule, I'll only really be able to play it Friday night. By then, everyone will be finished!

Yeah but it was jackass Jim Sterling. I'm not a fan of Crackdown myself but you can pretty much generally  ignore that dude as he tends to write "message" reviews. He's like a bad gaf poster.

i've seen the description "expansion pack" being tossed around here and there, but honestly from what i've seen and played it's not even an expansion pack, it's more like something a modder would do if there had been a pc version of the first game

so i understand the complaints, and from the little time i spent with the demo i agree with some of them and have some of my own...but more orbs man, more orbs

for $35 i can live with a modded crackdown, if only to get together with four other people just to see if we can cause enough explosions at once to drop the framerate down to single digits

I think calling it an expansion pack works.  It is easy to write it off as less if you only think about it as a single player game because there is more to the multiplayer.  Four player co-op with more to do and that versus mode (doesn't look good, but it is there if people want it).  Assassin's Creed Brotherhood seems the same way.

I honestly couldn't have seen this game turning out well. When you hand off a sequel to another developer it's always a recipe for a clusterfuck. You don't have any of the tech from the original game to iterate on, so you're stuck on making something BETTER than the original from scratch. Ugh.

I'm not sure all of that is the case here. Especially since Microsoft owns the IP they may also have possession of the code base (Although I'm not exactly sure how that works in these cases). Not to mention a lot of the team that worked on this split from Real-Time Worlds to come work on this.

The more likely culprit probably in this case was simply a rushed dev schedule.
