I was looking at photos of the Kamchatka peninsula and reading up on it. It’s beautiful there—I was really stunned by some of the natural beauty. I’ve found a lot of fascinating places in Eastern Russia in general, in 3D photos and maps online. Some of the ruins of Soviet bases are a bit staggering in their scope and recency. Like how can some of this shit be just ~50-60 years old and look so fuckin’ wrecked.

Couple months later I catch this fool talking about how he's gonna snap up a couple properties in Inglewood and start renting out. I rib him a little bit and said something like hey man... Whos gonna protect your condos if all cops are bastards or whatever and he gets MEGA defensive, saying he'll be a good landlord, he'll cut people breaks, all that. I'm just laughing at this guy, I remember a couple weeks back he told me that he hopes Lyft drivers don't unionize or whatever because they'll become too expensive and he won't be able to afford his sammies and trips to the dive bar

I basically scoped the areas out I’m looking to move to in detail down in LA, and I’m so impressed by Google Map’s VR shit that I’ve been hooked on checking out cities, tourist attractions, geological points of interest. Please, if you folks know of some cool spot in the world that I probably don’t know about, let me know. I like exploring and learning about this shit. I pretty much didn’t know the Kamchatka peninsula existed until yesterday, and now I want more!

I've always had a big interest in Russia as well, TVC. I really wanted to visit around 2008 but went to Rome instead as travelling to Russia seemed sus back then and even more so today.


It's always been interesting to me how the country as a whole just keeps repeating the same patterns over centuries but changing the names of what they call their empire/emperors. And Russian architecture, then weirdo Soviet architecture.

That sounds like what I’m looking for. I may have to resubscribe to D+. I’m curious about when this stuff was abandoned. I guess it’s hard to gauge without having a better idea of what the elements can do there. There are completely abandoned towns by at least some of them.

Went to Austin for a week to work on a project with a friend and just got back, it's an extremely pleasant place. The people are super nice and not abrupt like in the Bay Area. Despite the sprawl, there's a good amount of stuff to do without having to travel too far. In just a week I got hearing damage at music shows, went to one of those "heckling" comedy clubs, did the blackout drunk 6th street tour, hung out with some nerdy girls that worked in tech or game development, and on Fat Tuesday I went to a Mardi Gras Drag show. Every queen earned their Venmo tip, it was amazing.

Oh, and I played Chickenshit Bingo too. I lost but I had fun.

I went to the grocery store today and decided to take a shortcut, like I normally do, down this small grassy slope. Well of course today it turned out to be pretty muddy and very slippery and I just fell on my knees and hands, everything absolutely covered in mud. I had a paper napkin in my pocket and got the worst of it off my hands and shoes, and luckily I was wearing black jeans so it wasn't super obvious. Or at least I hope so. Also the shoes were in need of cleaning anyway.

There was a time when I would have just slinked home embarrassed as shit and go to the shop later with clean clothes but I seem to have reached that stage in my life that I dress like a hobo and look generally unkempt anyway, what's a little (or a lot) mud all over my clothes and hands

Remember six months ago when the CDC reacted quickly when people were apparently getting sick from vaping? And now the CDC is suddenly incompetent when there’s a major outbreak?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said there are at least 380 vaping-related respiratory illnesses in 36 states, plus the U.S. Virgin Islands. There may be more cases across the country, but the CDC is counting only those that have been confirmed or are highly probable because all other causes of the lung infection have been ruled out by physicians.

Forty-four state health departments overall have reported investigations into more than 500 possible cases, illustrating the broader scope of the problem. Late Tuesday, the Arizona Department of Health confirmed three cases, the state's first. All of those patients are out of the hospital and recovering.

The surge in cases prompted the CDC to activate its emergency operations center on Monday. The move will allow CDC officials to allocate additional staff and resources to the nationwide investigation.

"CDC has made it a priority to find out what is causing this outbreak of e-cigarette or vaping-related injuries and deaths," Dr. Robert Redfield, CDC's director, said in a statement.

The agency has advised against using e-cigarettes and vaping devices, especially those bought off the street, as investigators have so far been unable to pinpoint any single product, ingredient or device as the source of the illnesses. Both nicotine and THC products have been implicated.
