Is the art ever open to the public?

Right now, it’s not open to the public. There is a world class collection of art, but it is totally inaccessible. If you crane your neck, you might get a peek at some of it. The Foundation exists as a 501(c)3, a tax status that Congress created to encourage organizations to work in the public interest.

Leadership and Staff

Sheldon Solow – Chairman of the Solow Foundation. Solow made billions in New York real estate and purchased much of his collection at auction. In 1991 he created the Solow Art and Architecture Foundation, a private operating foundation of which he is the chair and sole board member. The Foundation accepts donations which can be used for tax writeoffs while it currently provides no public access.

Gerard Martinez – Director of Information Technology. If you start a satirical website trying to draw attention to the absurdity of a publicly supported, private museum, Gerard will contact your ISP with a note that raises the possibility of legal action. Moira Evans – Curator. It’s unclear what Moira does as she won’t return phone calls or emails and there is no information publicly available about her. But she is the curator of an amazing permanent collection of art and possibly some temporary exhibitions too, none of which are open to the public.

Harry – Guard. Harry is friendly and eager to help, but will tell you firmly that under no circumstances can you visit the collection. He often receives the same question, but the answer never changes.

Keith – Guard. Keith has been with the Solow organization for almost a decade. While he’s seen the collection a few times, he’s never allowed anyone else in, even people who work in the building. He agrees its sensible that a foundation which benefits from a tax incentive should provide public access, but he wouldn’t think of raising with anyone else unless he also becomes someone who’s not allowed in.

In other news 16 of 19 discs from the storage locker got out. 7 unheard songs with vocals (two demos without Axl, though), I think 13ish instrumentals which range from Southern rock fitting in a NASCAR game to NIN bootlegs to Buckethead going crazy and vocal samplings from Hannibal Lecter and Shao Khan. Another disc should come out tonight with a few more unheard songs and the earliest known versions of a few of the CD songs. Also superior cuts of CD, The Blues/Street of Dreams, Riad n' the Bedouins, TWAT, Catcher In The Rye, and Madagascar.

yeah I saw some of that palladium show too. kind of

cause I am finally going to have a chance to see them next month for voodoo (they are slotted for 3 hours). they seemed to be in goodish shape last year, but looking pretty shit now...hopefully off night but his voice sounded bad. I should have made it out to Houston last year when Skrillex opened for them.

Well the good news is that Axl usually improves a bit after the first few shows since he doesn't do warm ups or rehearsals and if he doesn't have a show for 9 months, well he's going to spend those 9 months drinking and eating Taco Bell. Other news: They've added Hardschool (one of the leaked songs, thought to actually have been a song Slash or at least Duff originally worked on and are reworking for a future release), Locomotive, Perfect Crime, and Dead Horse to the alt set list.

However, Perfect Crime has been on the alt set list since 2006 and never even been rehearsed by any incarnation of the band since then so

Expect the same set as the last 3 years.
