This is a funny meme and all but I gotta ask, does anyone who subscribes to the network do so just for the PPVs? I pretty much just subscribe for the back catalog, the PPVs are kind of just a bonus. If I were just interested in those I'd probably just use VIPbox or the like

Yeah, I do.

I sub one month for each of the big 4 PPVs.  The back catalog doesn't interest me much at all.

I half paid attention to the whole show but it didn't seem interesting at all when I was really paying attention. Didn't make me want to rewatch while sober and paying 100% attention for sure. The rumble itself seemed like dogshit before Brock/Goldberg/Taker popped in, but I did lol heartily at Roman being 30 because it felt like a hardcore troll to the audience.

The lack of any random legend surprises was really pretty weird, especially since Renee on the pre show made a point to say that part of the allure of the Rumble was the surprise old star entrants. They've made a point for years to have at least a couple of random ass old dudes to pop in, but there were zero surprises this year. Also lol at how a GOLDBERG VS UNDERTAKER spot was pretty much played off as important as Brock eliminating Enzo.

Ah, gotcha. How avid a viewer are you? A third of the price of an annual sub for 4 events doesn't seem worth it to me, though I guess that's less than the price of individual PPVs

I keep up with storylines, but I don't watch much of the actual product.  I mostly watch YouTube clips of Raw/Smackdown and B PPVs.  if I'm feeling nostalgic I can most likely find an Attitude Era match/segment on YouTube/Dailymotion.

I like wrestling in general, but current WWE isn't very interesting.

Fuck Tye Dillinger. Dude was marginally better than poopbutt Eric Young at Takeover. Ready for people to get over their fascination with his chant so he can go back to being a nothing jobber to the stars, which is the role he's actually quite good at.

And that is the highest that waste of space Dillinger will ever reach, because he isn't good, he's old, and he'll never be anybody. Welcome to the Preshow if you're lucky.

He ain't got it!

I was straight prepped for a fucking Kurt Angle surprise number 30. I knew Orton was gonna win so I figured it was a lock.

Then fucking Roman Reign's music hit. I probably went from super excited to straight bummed in record time.

I think Joe is getting called up. I can see Smackdown going like this: Wyatt wins title at Elimination Chamber (Cena just won so he can have his 16th title). Either Joe debuts at EC to cost Cena the title or he debuts the night after to challenge him.

Then Wyatt and Orton feud going into WM.

Joe is someone you save for night after Mania, there's nothing for him as a monster to do for this Mania without an insufficient build. You can structure a whole summer program around his debut and keep him looking like a monster when Mania isn't in the picture. That's the perfect use for him. Anything beforehand is just too early, and saddles him with baggage he doesn't need.

If Joe came out at 30 and then Orton won, there would have been a riot in that arena. Orton got a great reaction for winning just because he wasn't Roman. My picks in our Rumble Raffle here ended up being Jericho, Mojo, and Enzo. Thought I might have had it with Jericho but no dice.

Overall good show though, I enjoyed the men's title matches quite a lot. Women's title match was a bit lackluster, but the Nia/Sasha match was a great way to show off Nia. Rumble itself was about average, but enjoyable. I was a little bummed with no real surprises other than Tye Dillinger but I guess WWE was using Taker/Goldberg as their "returning old dudes".

Everyone that came by for the PPV was most impressed by Gallagher in the Rumble and the consensus for the best match was Cena/AJ, out of a mostly casual crowd of ~13

I had some fascinatingly depressing Rumble pool picks thanks to the WWE Slam app. It's a card collecting "game" and they had you get numbers, and you could buy packs with your numbers and winners get a big amount of coins, all that shit.

Ended up with Enzo, Mojo, Kalisto, ELLSWORTH and Big Show. I think Enzo was the latest one out and I sobbed into my pillow, knowing damn well what'd happen.

They're bored of him being all over the show, that's not that hard to understand.

lol @ people who expect to see him turn heel or want him to. It won't ever happen. Cena is still face and will retire as one, Roman will do the same.

He was in one match, which he lost, and then was in the rumble for all of 5 mins. No promos. No backstage segments. On a 4 hour show. All over the show  :doge

He's rarely had a promo on Raw in like a year that goes over a few minutes, he usually has little or no backstage segments. Roman is basically on any given show for just his match and MAYBE the opening promo to set it up. He's on it way less than any other "super over pushed" guy.

Braun Strowman kicking Jericho's ass and putting him through the table so he wouldn't interfere in the title match he had with Owens  :lol

It just made the crowd like Braun even more and then when Reigns came out, Reigns got booed even more because he was attacking Braun. :rofl

Reigns is just awfully booked in general because he's not even getting the "Kids, Casual male fans and Women love Cena while those damn nerds are booing him" mixed reaction. Even kids are shitting on Reigns at taped events. I know he gets pops and big star babyface reactions at live shows, but goddamn.

Seth Rollins injured Sting doing a move he had already done 3 times on the show and shouldn't have been doing against Sting in the first place, just like Seth Rollins injured himself because he felt that he just HAD to POWERBOMB Kane while being a chickenshit heel. Fuck Seth Rollins, fuck his knee, good riddance. Hope he never comes back, tbh. Nothing will be lost without him. Did anyone miss him at the Rumble? Did anyone even realize he wasn't in the Rumble? No and no. Fuck Seth Rollins.

Rumble was a better show when I actually paid attention to it, but all the singles matches were too long, and the Rumble had too much down time. Taker definitely, definitely needs to retire at WM this year.

Dawg please, NO ONE was talking about Seth being banned from the Rumble, people have been talking for 2 years about how lame the HHH/Seth angle was, when Seth was out hurt, no one gave a shit and it didn't impact the shows at all. Seth has been a complete afterthought since his return. Him missing another 9 months would mean absolutely nothing. People will pop when he returns because people always pop for a big return. Then they'll go back to not giving a shit about Seth Rollins.

Are you really going to act like people have cared about Seth Rollins for the past 8 months?

No doubt his return has been underwhelming, but my impression before he got hurt was that he was pretty hot. I definitely think saying "no one gave a shit when he was out" is hyperbolic. I'll admit my scope is limited to wrestling threads on fairly obscure forums and casually browsing r/sc but people were generally upset from what I recall

All of the Shield members have been failures on their own for various reasons. At least with Dean, you can laugh at how shitty he is. Seth is just...there. In the worst way possible. Absolutely nothing about him stands out. He's more suited to 205 Live than main events on Raw.

Quote from: Dave Meltzer
John Cena & Nikki Bella vs. The Miz & Maryse. This is notable in a lot of ways. When this match came out, a ton of people internally were rolling their eyes about it. On one hand, it does feel like a waste for Cena, who was originally to face Undertaker, and there was also talk of Samoa Joe and others. But there is also a lot of talk that it would be Nikki Bella’s last match (there are reports of that but nobody we’ve asked about it internally either had any knowledge or confirmed it). If so, you can see her wanting to go out with her boyfriend at WrestleMania and see him maybe wanting that as well. Miz has done a great job of late and the Miz & Maryse couple are a near main event level act. With the storyline where Natalya pushed that “John will never marry you,” I keep thinking this could lead to a proposal, and if that’s the case, in the big picture, this match makes sense. I don’t know that’s the case. That would be a far bigger thing as far as something memorable than anything, even a great match with A.J. Styles, that Cena could be to the majority of fans.

Whether you like it or not, Cena Marriage angle would do gangbusters on ratings if they do it on TV. One thing I've discovered when I was researching rasslin weddings (around when they did the Bryan/AJ Lee wedding) is that people sit down to watch a dang wedding.

Now imagine it with Cena promoting it on all those talk shows. Butts in the seats. Speaking of butts in the seats...

MLW's What Happened When podcast with Tony Schiavone is so close to being wonderful. So close. The weak link that ruins near the whole damn show for me is "Conrad" - the host. He's the type of guy who laughs when Tony swears or says something that involves tits. And his voice is awful awful awful. I know WCW was big on that southern influence down there but Conrad sounds like a slackjawed local guy. He's absolutely awful.

That said, I'm sticking with it because Tony Schiavone is amazing. Week 2 just hit and they're discussing Souled Out 97.

I like who I like and dislike who I dislike

Kanyon has a couple of weeks there during the Invasion where he's on the show like 3-4 segments, even as a joke, it's still wonderful. It's really incredible that NO ONE in the Alliance can win a match without interference or cheating except for RVD, Rhyno, and sometimes Kidman. Even the dudes that JR hypes up as great wrestlers and great athletes can't win on their own even against fucking losers. Booker T, the biggest star to come into the company from WCW (who came in as the last champion), needs a 20 person run in brawl, Shane McMahon, crooked refs, a normal ref bump, and Austin to win a match. The WCW Championship is used as a prop in the WWF Championship feud. How weird that no one took the Alliance seriously  :doge

I def popped when Kanyon got to hit that thief Edge with a Flatliner, tho

Fuck y'all, didn't even realize they put up more shit under the Hidden Gems section on the Network. They do a terrible job of hyping releases on the Network. At best they'll send an email blast that goes to spam saying how many hours of Smackdown have been uploaded. Had no clue they did collections on Hidden Gems, Black History Month, or New Day until happening to look. Similar to how they didn't hype at all when they released a bunch of territory shit. I think the only thing I've seen on WWE television be hyped is when they started putting up Nitros.

Anyway, that Brock/Batista match sure was interesting. Batista dominated, Brock as an outmatched almost underdog face, with shades of a HOSS battle. The weirdest part is that it's from 2001 and Batista looked more impressive and skilled in this match than he did for like...3 years on the main roster.

You can tell both were going to be big players for WWE. Certainly much more than you'd imagine from the Cena/Orton match they put out on the first set. Shockingly good considering they were two HUGE dudes with about a year of experience under their belts, in a 6 minute developmental TV match.

Anyway, tuned into the Hulu version of  Raw since I had a trial and already watched all four Lethal Weapons and got very sad at watching Dirty Grandpa. Fucking loooooooool'd hard at the opening video. HHH in full berry mode. Wasn't a fan of Joe's suit (think it would have looked better with a dark shirt and no tie, imo), but he looked, sounded, and was treated as a huge deal. Then Roman dropping a line that this was HIS YARD which will no doubt be in all the WM promo packages. Joe's career turn around from Brooklyn 2015 has been incredible and I hope he's able to keep it up on Raw. Also hopeful he gets the AJ Styles treatment. The Hulu editing is a bit dodgy at times, but it's for sure vastly superior to watching the 3 hour live version. It sucks that WWE picks up all these well, well established talents about 5 years too late.

Also, I hear Gallagher vs Neville for the title at Fastlane? Sign me up for that shit.
