Apparently everyone's favorite, BARON CORBIN, is in line for a big push and feud with Seth Rollins for the title.

:neogaf

At least drop the "I dress like I'm the GM even though I'm back to straight-up wrasslin'" look, plz.

The Baron Corbin push is fascinating.  I almost have to believe it's legitimate trolling the audience, if spiteful instead of lighthearted trolling.

I mean Vince spent 4-5 years pushing Roman like that, why not spend the same amount of time trying to get Corbin to have actual heel heat as opposed to Xpac heat?

Tuesday's Smackdown Live was down in viewership numbers, generating 1.827 million viewers down from last week's 1.931 and slightly lower than the 1.833 two weeks ago, which up until Tuesday was the least watched Smackdown since the 2016 brand split and move to live shows.   The 2018 edition drew 2.175 million and the 2017 edition was watched by 2.348 million.

On the night, Smackdown dropped all the way to #13 in total viewership and it even faltered in the 18-49 demographic, where the show finished #6.   It was beat by an NBA playoff game, an NHL playoff game, SportsCenter, the NBA Draft Lottery show and an NBA pre-show.

Meanwhile, Miz & Mrs. was up in viewership numbers, being watched by 1.009 million compared to 898,000 the week before.  It's only the second time the show has topped a million viewers this season and the first time in the last four weeks.

Lars got fined and apologized to the roster over his comments online from nine years ago.  I bet if he were cruiserweight-size, he would have been fired immediately.

Quote
On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, it was noted that WWE ended up fining Lars Sullivan $100,000 and putting him into sensitivity training due to some backlash and complaints from sponsors.    When that happened, WWE felt they had to publicly take action but weren’t interested in releasing Sullivan outright.  As a result, a significant $100,000 fine was levied.

It was also stated that it is a steep fine (one of the largest in history that the company has announced) and a good part of Sullivan’s yearly salary and definitely in the range of what he made last year in NXT.   Dave Meltzer speculated that WWE will likely allow Lars to pay the fine over instalments by taking it out of his pay check and he confirmed that the fine is “real” despite some online speculation that it was made up.

The dirt sheets are also pointing out that Lio Rush has removed any mention of "WWE" from his social media. :thinking

Nitro:

9/23/96

3/8/99

5/31/99 or 6/7/99

Really all Nitros between late March and October of 1999 are just awful not even in the lmao Russo way, but the Jesus fuck Kevin Nash way.

4/10/00 The Bischoff/Russo reboot

I'm assuming you can pick just about any show in 00 and 01 and it's going to be terrible. Thunder was always trash so pick literally any episode.

NWO Nitro. They spend 45 minutes just taking over the sets.

There's another one in 1997 and I actually don't remember which one is the really bad one, literally half the show is just them fucking with the sets.

IIconics are genuinely probably the worst pair of wrestlers WWE has had in a decade. They're so, so terrible, I can't believe they not only made it through NXT, but got called up at all, and then got the tag titles put on them at WM.

Cagesideseats.com:

Shane McMahon pitches ideas for himself but “they rarely get used,” says the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. They also say Stephanie McMahon has nothing to do with creative right now.

Take this with a few extra grains of salt, but a caller to PW Torch’s Wade Keller Pro Wrestling Post-Show claiming to be friends with three WWE writers said, “The most frustrated person in the back every single night is Triple H.”

Sometimes where there is smoke, there is also a whole lot of fire.

Despite being the largest professional wrestling promotion in human history, WWE is not immune to outside noise. It feels like WWE has been fighting uphill ever since WrestleMania 35.

Television ratings are down across the board, injuries are hitting more often than not, creative is in a funk, some talent is unhappy, and other talent is flat out leaving the promotion. These are just a few of WWE’s current issues. Another big problem when all of these elements are added together is more people are talking about what WWE is doing away from the ring rather than what goes down between the ropes on a weekly basis.

This surge of negative momentum, left unchecked, is a path WWE probably does not want to stare down for too long. Recent rumors of creative tensions between Vince McMahon and Triple H may be a symptom or cause of WWE’s recent run of missteps.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required and encouraged) Dave Meltzer reports on recent creative clashes between Triple H and McMahon.

“Paul Levesque, while never saying anything publicly, those close to the situation say he’s very frustrated with how things are going on the main roster. One person noted that a big problem isn’t Vince not being open to suggestions, but that they believe he’s far too open these days to suggestions and that it ends up watering down all the original visions and storylines. We’re told that there has been too much input from too many people on the team who haven’t figured out that when you change something in a story, it has a ripple effect on every aspect of the story. He solicits input on so much from so many people that it leads to things being watered down.”
Meltzer would also go on to add that there is great concern within WWE about how the XFL will affect both McMahon’s workload as well as his creative decisions.

---

So we have agents/writers who quit and now rumors that nobody is doing anything but Vince.  No wonder it sucks so bad right now.

205 will probably be integrated into NXT tapings. I can't imagine they'll cut the show because CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT. Also it's very, very obvious that HHH is the one leaking all this shit. It's certainly not a coincidence that these stories put him in the best possible light where he's the second most powerful person in the company who somehow has no say but is fighting for the fans and NXT talent, while liking tweets about fans wanting to get rid of Vince and talk of healthcare just long enough to get screen shotted and shared everywhere.

Page vs PAC has been removed from Double Or Nothing because Neville won't job to anyone while he's Dragongate champion. So instead they did the match at an indie in the UK with a DQ finish a week before it was scheduled to be the main event of the first AEW show. PAC is off the show entirely and might not even be a part of the promotion at all now.

Off to a hot start, fellas :lol

I don't think it's a proxy war, I think it's just HHH trying to distance himself from how shitty Raw/SD is right now and keep his savior cred with the dirt sheet reading audience. Why NXT alone isn't enough for him is anyone's guess.

I think it's more PAC just said nah. The options for booking him are he goes over, time limit draw, or DQ. Period. He will not drop a fall while he has DG's title. He's made it clear with every promoter he's worked for, doesn't matter how big of a star they are (he refused to job to Ospreay, ZSJ, and WALTER recently as well). This seems like something that should have been worked out when they announced the match 5 fucking months ago instead of waiting until a week before the event to suddenly scrap it entirely.

The first fucking show and they've already shown the problem with wrestlers running their own promotion: EVP Adam Page wanted to win even against a guy who makes it well known he will not drop falls to literally anyone while he has the title he has in his home promotion, so they just scrap the whole thing.

Honestly a VISA issue makes them look even worse. This company backed by a billionaire has had 6+ months to get a VISA worked out, and like...literally half the roster aren't American citizens and need work visas, so it'd be pretty odd for this one specific guy to fall through the cracks. And if they knew there was an issue with it they'd have known for months now so they could have announced it a little sooner than a week before the event.

If you had any doubts at how unbiased Meltzer was going to be covering this promotion headed up by his buddies

https://twitter.com/davemeltzerWON/status/1129910070832185344

He spins it as a GOOD thing, that they actually did deliver it and for FREE (unannounced at UK indie no one knows about) because they didn't want fans to pay for a match that wouldn't happen (which is why it was their first match announced and they were still promoting it as of this week as happening after they announced how to purchase the PPV), oh and also they have a better replacement anyway.  :lol :lol :lol

In other lol wrestling news, TNA thought they signed Jordynn Grace to a 2 year contract and have been pushing her on TV pretty heavily for 8 months only to find out they never actually got the paper work done, so she's a free agent. This comes at the same time as Scarlett Bordouex and Killer Kross (a couple and both have had pretty significant TV time over the past year) both asking for releases and a report about how TNA pays so little these days that talents like Kross end up making $5-6K for the year after expenses, of which TNA doesn't pay at all. Yet they'll give 50 year old RVD 6 figures and cover all his expenses.

Also loltna was Impact this week went to commercial without a half hour left and never came back, with Pursuit instead airing bait and tackle commercials on a loop. Apparently the show before that had a  bunch of technical issues and glitches as well.

Alexa Bliss has been pulled from MITB with apparently another concussion, which is like her 4th in a year.

EDIT: Double Talk Dave actually implied the problem wasn't with Page, but with Kenny, because Kenny/the rest of the squad didn't think HE should drop a fall to PAC down the line, so they just cancelled PAC's shit all together to get around the situation. :lol :lol

What a weird PPV that was.  There were what...four matches that barely counted as actual bouts?  Roman/Elias was a squash.  Elias singing lasted way longer, lol.  The Charlotte/Becky felt like a segment on Raw, but hey, Bayley cashing in was fun to see.  And then Rey/Joe ended really quickly, but that one was understandable since Joe broke his nose.  Those two just have bad luck in matches with each other, holy shit.  And then the racist bigot Lars attack on the Lucha House Party...because why not?

I liked MITB til that ending. Bork coming back for no reason is hilariously stupid but definitely makes sense if you consider all Vince wants at this point is to pop ratings on Raw.

WWE seemingly bringing back the hardcore title is :lol but maybe the 24/7 rule could lead to some funny bits

A lot of people are misinterpreting the situation, PAC was always supposed to beat Page. The issue was that the match would lead to PAC vs. Omega, which they didn't want Omega to lose, so they cancelled it

is that supposed to be a better reason to cancel a headlining match a week before the show when you knew that would happen months ago?
