When I was younger, I worked as a cashier, and I witnessed a lot of stuff like this. Sometimes it angered me. But in retrospect, it's like who cares? If someone wants to use their government assistance to slowly kill themselves, then that's their prerogative. Either way I'm paying the same amount of taxes and they're being alotted the same amount of money, doesn't really matter.  Plus I can look at people like that and feel a little bit better about myself which is always nice.

I've seen it plenty, but it helps I worked at a grocery store. I've also known some people who used their stamps to trade discounted groceries for cash. Not really much you can do about that, though.

I've seen it a few times. It's usually a mother/daughter combo or 2 sisters. Usually in grocery stores in the shittier parts of town. Another thing I have noticed is that the groceries in these store are more expensive than in the nicer parts of town. These stores know they will get a large part of the local EBT money and raise their prices.

sometimes i think dudes who complain excessively about this stuff should go to a shitty supermarket and peek down the 99c aisle, or just look at how cheap shitty food really is. yeah, shitty supermarkets have a discount aisle. it's all junk, grade-c little snooki snacks, starch-in-a-box, room temp cheese shapes, and canned fruit 'cocktail'.

I was on food stamps as a kid and my wife makes fun of my childhood nachos (frito lays, canned chili, sliced velveeta, and ketchup)

It's an interesting negative cycle. We subsidize sugar production for farmers which creates cheap unhealthy food, then people (whether they're on welfare or not) get on the path to DIABETUS and horrible oral health.

My problem is that we're setting up people for long term health problems, be they on welfare or not. And it's screwing up the health system. I'd like to get rid of subsidies at the least, and if fresh produce was readily available I'd love to tax the shit out of heavy sugar products.

One of the worst things I've seen was a mom with fucking Mountain Dew in a sippie cup, feeding her 2 year old. That's child abuse.

They are quick to jump to defend any new release from EVEN NAYSAYERS on boards.  I got shit from one of them for saying that playing Senran Kagura Burst would be a step backwards from Shinovi Versus.  Not sure how anyone could disagree with that, but hey XSeed didn't have SV to localize at the time so clearly it sucked!

It's disgusting, and rampant in inner cities and rural areas, although suburban areas aren't great either. We had a big ass chart in the dental office that listed various drinks from neutral (water) to the highest acidity (battery acid). Guess who one is closest to battery acid brehs. Children shouldn't be drinking that shit, or just about any pop IMO. Especially because most children have poor or average oral hygiene.

We saw a kid who had cavities in nearly 20 baby teeth. I talked to the mom about it and she told me straight to my face that her kid didn't drink pop or eat candy, so there's no way she had so many cavities. I wanted to just ask her if she thought I was stupid.

One of the best things about Obamacare is that it opens access to dental care for nearly every child in the US (that doesn't live in a red state at least). But I'd love to see preventive reach beyond the dental office, IE get pop out of schools and tax that shit.

Dentists have raised concerns about sippy cups and iced tea in Germany, too. I agree poor hygiene has something to do with it, but that alone won't rot your teeth down to black stumps. We don't fluoridate the water here either, but someone who is on a drip feed of soda or other sugary stuff isn't drinking much tap water anyway. It's the constant exposure to sugar that does it. It's like placing your teeth in cultured petri dish.
