No, that's an exponential increase in size from the previous gen. And for what? uncompressed audio and multiple languages that you won't use. They could remove some of those audio files and the game would be fine.

I agree that's dumb, but I'm not convinced it's actually downloading that much data. That shit has got to be compressed to hell. I don't use Origin much, but I imagine it does the same thing as Steam and doesn't report how much it's actually downloading.

I don't know what Steam does, but I do know that Origin does a hilarious thing wherein it reports its download speed based on what the install will uncompress to. So let's say that the download is compressed 50 percent. For every 1 MB you download, it reports as 2. Because once uncompressed, that will be what you downloaded. This inflates Origin's download speeds.

No, you misunderstand. I understand the increase in size. But the increase in size for five damn languages no one is going to use/redundant data? That's 10x over the normal increase in size.

Most games last generation were about 12 gig max. Titanfall being 50gigs for redundant data/data inflation is stupid. Uncharted 3 came out that much on a bluray rip, but if you removed the redundant/trash data, it'd come out to 7 gigs. Same thing for Titanfall. Going "Welcome to Next-gen" is stupid when that data isn't being used for 95% of the population.

Was this from an optimized pirated copy or something? The PSN download for Uncharted 3 comes out to around 30GB for the single player + cinematics + mandatory base multiplayer. The optional 3D cinematics and additional language packs bloat it to a 40-50GB download. I don't have a bandwidth cap and I have a 500GB drive in my PS3 but that still kind of pisses me off, especially if they could get it down to 7GB without losing out on anything.

Ah, you're right. 30gigs total for the campaign. It's been a while since I looked at the digital release. But still, they removed the redundant language files and cut the size from like 50-70gigs off the disc to download to a reasonable size. Titanfall has a ton of redundant data in addition to those uncompressed sounds. Hiding behind "lol next-gen lol" is a stupid excuse. There's no reason a lot of these trash files should be sitting on someones hard-drive when they aren't going to use those languages/files ever.

I used to write haikus about the fucked up stupid life I lead in my early 20s that I'd post on a message board similar in origin / function to this one, but for a different video game website.

Some of them were kinda funny but they're lost to the sands of time now.
