It's a lazy attempt by people with small musical palettes to feel superior. I can understand not liking some classic rock but if you're hating on it across the board you're dismissing quite a bit of ground breaking records, great musicians, dope songs, etc. You can't call Led Zeppelin dad rock and get respect from me. Disliking some or even most of their music is one thing, but outright dismissing it because it's old and is straight forward? Sucker shit.

The ultimate damnation of this shit is that Steely Dan would be the definition of dad rock. And if you don't like Steely Dan you're just a lost, fatherless nicca.
